I played the entire game with my Xbox One controller, and it did tell me at a point that I could do this, although I don't think it told me to hold it, I'm pretty sure it was something along the lines of "use L3 to hide" which is as dumb as it saying "use R3 and L3 to struggle" like wtf does that even mean?

I wouldn't say its useless; I had an enemy literally 5 feet from me that I didn't see and did this. Survived and I got an achievement out of it.
