Any reason to play the game through steam and not standalone?

I like being able to launch out of the same place I am playing other games, and I like the purchases I have go through a different system that sees a lot more traffic so I hope it is better protected.

There are some good reasons for standalone. The client is more reactive. I have a 1-2 row difference in my distilling in steam client vs direct client.
