Which sword is the best?
I've already deciphered the colour schemes shown when you hover over various swords. OK, so my goal should be the one which gives my opponent the most random set of colours. Is there any preference between smaller and bigger swords (i.e. is the bigger colour patch of falchion better than the small patch of stiletto)?
And also - how does the condition of the sword affect the fight?

Condition of the sword determines how long you have to use it before you lose it.

As for your other questions, I've only started playing recently, so I've got no answer.

The easiest answer would be that the best sword is the one who give the opponent most random set of colors, which will make it harder for them to build combos, that's pretty much it.
Ahem. I mentioned that in the original post. I am waiting for people to post some actual choices - and I still wonder about the size of the pattern.

http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/Sword. List of all swords and the patterns they have.
My personal favourites are:
Falchion, Cleaver, Dadao and for other reasons, Katana.
I personally actually don't but swords cause i don't like spending the money.
Don't settle for foil, it worse than a stick, in my opinion a least.
Great, thanks. I think the same about the foil, so I bought a stiletto.

The stick really is the worst weapon of them all - the droprates and incredibly predictive and immensely easily countered.

Anyway - the best weapon depends on your fighting style - take the falchion for example - A highly used weapon in high rank fights, but that's because they used large attacks. If you only use the falchion for sprinkles, it is as strong as the foil... Look at the patterns - If you only ever sprinkle, you will get the lowest row of drops, which makes the drop pattern predictable during the fight.

The backsword, if you know how to use it. It's also indestructible; too bad its no longer available ;P
Hah yes, I know about that one.:steamsalty:
