Is it worth attempting to play this again?

I used to play this game literal years ago. I tried to come back to it and the dark seas version a few less years ago, but it felt like nobody was really playing it for fun anymore i.e everyone who was online was like super elitist 'you must already have silver+ trophies to play' those kinda people. Is it still like that? I saw someone say everyone either quit or moved back to emerald, and there's only like 600 people at most online per day. As of this post, there's only about 80 online according to steamcharts (yikes).

People are still playing for fun. Yes, there are a lot fewer players overall. Yes, most of the players are on Emerald.

Not all players are logging through Steam. I don't know if Steam can see into the game to count people who are using the downloaded client. I would expect ~4 pm game time to be ~300 on Emerald even on a Tuesday.

I'm mostly a Meridian player. A lot of content is available to me as an individual, but if you really loved the Inn carousing games, or you liked the larger boats in the specialized maps like Atlantis or Haunted Seas, then you are going to need Emerald.

I didn't think people still used the original launcher for some reason Every time I used it in the past my account and pirates would get deleted. Never had that problem with the steam version. I think I used to play on Viridian myself, before it became Meridian. Then Obsidian. All the -idians. I miss hs and kh especially (and blacksmith LOL), but that also goes back to my comment about trophies... hard to prove experience when everything keeps getting erased, and people aren't willing to waste a spot on a blank page Welp. If google is right, 4pm game time would be 7pm EST, which isn't terrible. I'll probably download it and see for myself. Thanks for responding.

Yeah, I just finished installing and it seems my pirate on Meridian from like 7 years ago is still there. Unfortunately there's only 9 players online right now (midnight EST). Hopped over to Emerald* and saw there were 247 online. Guess I'm starting over again lol...

Yeah, that's about where things are right now. There are fan created discord servers and an official and a fan made reddit, if that helps. There is new content (slowly) being made, and I know because someone mentioned it that Capt Cleaver is following up this month on the survey from last autumn. This winter was hard on everyone. Hopefully some of the type of player who likes shaking trees for oranges (hi Animal Crossings), throwing flowers (Pikmin), cute cartoon violent tower defense (plants vs zombies), simple open world graphics (minecraft), running around a map collecting stuff with obscure lore (tons of things but lets put Pokemon here), etc. will take the game for a spin and find something they like.

I'm Irig on all Oceans. Please feel free to say hi. I am terrible with names (seriously I forgot a fiancee's name while introducing them to childhood friends), so you'll have to remind me.

Here is the most general one I have. It is the Puzzle Pirate Marketplace discord.
It is well moderated, requires YPP! account verification using a third party tool that interacts with the game and is GreyHaven's oked, and is active enough that if you lurk for a while and then ask around you should be able to find other servers.

ehh thanks but no thanks. I don't see myself needing anything related to the marketplace, and I have trust issues when it comes to third party approval methods, even if they are allowed by whoever official. guess I'll just stick to /global

If you ask on /Global, you might get more servers. I tend to try to keep my server count low because I am too easy to distract!

I am sorry that happened. That's understandable. Stubbornness and pettiness would make me want to ignore them and not allow them to have any influence in my being here, but that wouldn't be because it didn't hurt. If it hurts, it hurts. I dunno if any one player is that important to being able to play the game at all. Huh, I don't remember if the game has a block or ignore function. Time to go refresh my memory.

you can mute people but that doesnt keep you from jobbing with them, and with the low player count nowadays it's easy to run into the same people. And since in my case it was a crew captain, they can keep me out of anything they do, possibly even their flag. I dunno.
