How will the great ypp ever get revived?
so for the last couple days ive been obsessing about whether or not this game will ever even reach 1000+ players again and how to convince people to play. then i went on the puzzle pirates twitter profile and all i saw was tweets pushing holiday offers, while players that cant figure out how to make an account cant even get a reply back

what kind of BS is that? im starting to feel like the game is destined to die and its killing me. thats just insanely embarrassing

I know!
There are lots of ideas on things, like a community run companion twitter to do things like announce the puzzles of the day, the in game events etc. Or do more cross media engagement into TT, YT, Twitch, etc. Right now I am not acting on any ideas I might have until I hear that the game installer is smoothed out. Maybe the last update was a technical debt update? We can hope?

although it shouldnt be the community's job, the twitter is a great idea and presence on streaming and just youtube in general is definitely lacking. id also like to see some solid targeted ads on facebook, instagram

I'm surprised it's still around, tbh. I've been hoping for a Puzzle Pirates 2 as a phone game MMO or something like that to reignite the playerbase and generate a heavy influx of new players. The game could work well with touch screen controls.

I doubt it will get revived for long. But if it does, it's probably because a popular youtuber or vtuber started playing it and brought their fanbase along for the ride. No telling how long the fanbase stays, but if even just one or two of them did a few streams/videos of the game it will help a lot

And maybe some small things to help players come back after a long time without playing, or encouraging new players to stay

The biggest threat to the future is the lack of care and change now. There has not been a new puzzle made for years and yet their are shops that dont have any puzzles. The earning rate for pilliages is to slow needs to be 1k-2k + per pirate per battle. not 300-600. They need to adjust the ladder and ranking system. Back in the day 10CC on Distilling was expert now you have to get 12cc+ and even when getting 12cc you wont even get to distinguished to get to skilled labor automatically. It is because the few experts that exsist all have like 3-9 alt pirates also at expert so most of the regular people who play just one pirate are at a disadvantage because they are pulling 12cc+ every time with 10ish pirates by themselves so its outta whack. If they correct for these things there will be upwards trejectory. A big way to get old ones back are to get their friends who still play actively to advocate for them to return but since things have mostly stayed the same for 10ish years the likely predictor of future results is the past and they havent been active in the past they likely wont be active now. I am looking forward to the day someone emulates / shards this game like SW galaxies emulated shard is having success and Excelsor for UO etc. That is the future where some loyal loving player tinkers with all the things that needs tinkering if the DEVs of this flagship wont.

If they made it mobile it would be wonderful!

Even if they only made a stand alone Bilge that ran Puzzle Pirate ads to funnel pirates in, without needing an account or having the app score touch the standings, that would be useful i think.
Bilge is a great gateway puzzle.
Cupidkilla Mar 19, 2022 @ 9:41am
i can see everyone's points. i guess in the end, nothing new is gonna come (features/puzzles, mobile, gateway run with bilge). might have to accept that theres nothing left of this game for me, especially as a subscriber by heart

i cant keep logging on to 10 people on cerulean and keep trying to solo making like 1k an hour. you meet a greenie or two and never meet them again because theres just nothing to do. i cant believe id pilly for 2 hours and would feel a rush if a single person applied to job. i was there for weeks and the only blockades were against NPPs because you probably cant even get enough people on for one afternoon to do a real blockade

none of the old stuff is fun. building a fleet is pointless. getting a shop is pointless because you cant employ or sell to anyone. getting a house, or going to the inn is pointless because theres no one to socalize with. no one pillies 22/24 hours of the day. its $10 a month but i feel like i should be getting paid to be on

i cant do the dub stuff where you spend $150-$250 (pretty much just two days of minimum wage work here) and get everything you ever wanted and just get stuck playing poker. i need to be able to feel something, not just buy it all. and im not gonna work 50x longer for it when i can buy it

but yeah, maybe someone will emulate it and polish it for the 2020s. ive come to accept that those glory days in the 2000s will never happen again. it was just a different time. its sad, but its not hard to move on when you see theres literally no hope, especially with the dev attitude of just "keeping the lights on". the more i think about it though, the more obvious it is that this can be a hit mobile game if integrated correctly.

I can see your point. There is still a lot of solo content I am willing to play, but yeah, I consider my labor alts on the dub ocean to be kind of a community job I do to make sure there are still whisking potions, rum, and shot.
I think there could be a way to get engagement with social media. But with someone actively griefing the Dub Exchange on Meridian, the only Ocean that can really welcome new pirates is Emerald. I am so mad about the Meridian Dub Exchange exploitation.
Which may still be worth it if any of them switch oceans, but how often does that happen?

thats crazy how you can even grief a dub exchange. social media campaigns are such a common sense thing, i dont know what the devs are waiting for

honestly, i guess everyone on any ocean other than emerald just has to bite the bullet. i decided id rather play with dubs than keep wasting my time on cerulean, and im a lot happier now. cant believe theres always at least something going on on emerald, was on a loaded war frig for a blockade and just had to crack a smile

The Devs and Admins seem to have lost interest in the game.. bots run wild, no one ever gets help when they need it and all suggestions to help the game go right out the window.

The bots are a huge issues.. I've seen island populations jump by the hundreds in one day yet nothing is done and still the same population playing. they tried a mobile before (just for Ipad if I remember right) in 2013 and pulled it in 2014 I don't know why.. this game would probably come back to life with a mobile platform but they just don't seem to care anymore

i know what you mean. ive been told to not even bother complaining about how they dont do anything. its pretty insane to take a decade long break and come back to pretty much the exact same game with way less people. it would be nice if they made it open source, but i suppose they know we would take this over nothing

i wonder if anyone has made a serious attempt to buy it in the last couple years. i dont see the point of holding on to a game thats not particularly profitable and doing nothing to revive it. i dont really know what to think anymore, but again, at least emerald with 200-300 people on is something. the game feels so neglected though that i cant see myself playing more than 60 days a year. whatever happened that has caused like 4 days of downtime so far doesnt help either because it shakes my confidence in the game

it makes me not want to spend money in game over fear of them getting into my accounts and banks etc.

We're in Steam. Steam can use PayPal. If you are really worried there are a variety of pretty low-effort ways to make sure a purchase never gets near your actual accounts.
