There might not be quite as many players as there used to be, but there are still enough. However, the main ocean with a lot of players is Emerald. Unfortuntaly, Meridian has been shrinking a lot over the past few months. If you want an ocean where there is always a ship jobbing, you'll have to make the switch over to Emerald, or run the pillage yourself.
Even on the 'dead' oceans though, some of us are still kicking and having fun. Cerulean is quite a happy place ^^
As Scarpath says - the game is still running perfectly well. I, for one, appreciate the half-empty islands, because otherwise it's really hard navigating through the cumbersome crowds (and you can always get this "experience" on Admiral, if you really want it)
Recently, a new feature - the greedies - has been added, so don't worry, the game will live on at least for a bit more :o)
Hiatus = Character deleted
Stupid rules = Permanent bans
Doubloons = Pay to win
Poker = Poker
Poker is literally keeping the game alive and personally the reason lots of people including me come back to the game. Online gambling was a great idea for this childrens game lol
Not being able to transfer progress to another server is annoying though, and if they ever want me to play Dark Waters, I'd really rather not have to start over. Will probably hang it up for good if there's not a transfer option since it's essentially the same game that they had to relaunch in order to add high priced pay-to-win DLC.
Also Dark Seas is gaining popularity with about the same amount of users, so Puzzle Pirates isn't dead, it's just more concentrated on specific oceans, while dark seas has only one ocean so that's not a problem at all in there.
