How to enable controller usage
For some reason, this game straight up refuses to acknowledge my DualShock pro controller at all, and only permits me to use my keyboard as an input device. Does anyone here know how to fix this?

Click Steam in the top right corner of your main steam window, go down the dropdown list and click settings. Go down to the controller options and click "general controller options" From here, try enabling Dualshock controller support and then see if that fixes your issue.

Unfortunately it doesn't. After doing some research, I think it's because the controller is DirectInput and not XInput, meaning the only option is to use x360ce, from what I'm seeing. Way to go, Capcom.

I have no problems using a Dualshock 4 through Steam settings without need for any additional third party software. Dualshocks are pretty well known to not natively work for most PC games in general, so it's not really surprising yours isn't working.

So I ended up getting a controller with XInput instead of DirectInput and the blasted thing still won't recognize my controller. Between this and the video codecs giving me all kinds of trouble, I'm starting to think that the fact that I'm running Linux is somehow involved, although I can't for the life of me figure out how that's supposed to add up.

I'm running Win 10, so I can't really help much with Linux related issues. It is strange, though. I can't imagine why running Linux would cause controllers to not work either.

It's all good, dude. I'm still leaning how to Linux myself. But yeah, it's weird. Steam recognizes the controller, but for some reason the game simply won't. It only accepts commands from my keyboard. Methinks CAPCOM simply hates me.

Have you tried enabling Xbox Controller Support through Steam's controller settings to use with your Xinput controller?

Yep. Oddly enough, when I verify the controller, it'll rumble, but when I bring up the calibration menu it just doesn't respond to any of my inputs. But when I switch it to PS3/DirectInput mode, it registers the inputs no problem.

That's really odd.

Extremely so. I'm desperate enough to hire someone to physically come to my home and fix it for me while telling me what all is wrong, because this is driving me nuts. I just wanted to relive my childhood, that's all. :(

All I can really recommend for your problem with my limited know-how is this: Specifically a Dualshock 4 works for me just fine, and I am running the game on Win 10. It might not sound like the greatest thing, but all I can suggest is buying a DS4 and trying that, and if that doesn't work then installing Win 10 is the next step. Playing the game with a DS4 on Win 10 through Steam's controller settings I can confirm works just fine.
