How to open this game's .ARC files for possible modding?
I've followed several tutorials on how to unpack .arc files in romPC but so far have had no luck. Arctools gave me this error:
Warning: unpack(): Type N: not enough input, need 4, have 0 in unarc.php on line 59

FreeArc gave me this error:
ERROR: (file location) isn't archive or this archive is corrupt: archive signature not found at the end of archive.

I haven't tried a hex editor yet, but it'd be interesting to know if anyone else knows how to tackle this.

Running FluffyQuack's Arctool with pc-re6.bat seems to handle it, or at least isn't throwing an error.

Link? And can it repack, or just unpack?

Does both.

Alright, I can unpack, but I seem to have no way of repacking. The method of dragging a directory onto the .bat files doesn't work for repacking.

Curious. As long as the .txt file generated when you unpacked it is still there, it should pack it right back up.

proably about the same as the X collection is.

Ok nevermind, now it works for some reason.
I am officially stuck.

I unpacked all the files, which all had the extension .724DF879. Converted all those to .wav files instead, then attempted to replace them with custom sounds. All were the correct format (Microsoft ADPCM) and the correct Hz, but when I repacked it all and attempted to launch the game, it hung on the loading screen indefinitely.

Not surprised, tbh.

When I was doing MM11 SFX modding, there was an extra step where you needed to hex edit the original smpl chunk over the fact chunk, and even then the engine still threw a hissy fit for no readily apparent reason sometimes.

Replace effects in very small batches, if not one by one, because trying to pick a problem file out of a whole bunch of them is maddening.

I added the signature of the originals to the end...it still won't load right.
So far, I've managed to unpack and repack sounds using Fluffy's tool just fine using that guide. However, it seems modifying ANY sounds in this collection will cause the game to crash. Even the smallest of edits to one sound will do it, and no amount of hex editing seems to fix it either.
