Even if Sony were feeling very kind and wanted to do so, the staff at Crystal Dynamics were tied up with Square Enix on this game (the game still requires a SquareEnix login). But CD has been sold off.
It would require Sony, CD, Square Enix, and Embracer to come to the table to sign the necessary papers, and someone to pay for the devs to port it over (relatively easy, but not free).
I wish they could, and I wish they had. But unfortunately your best bet is going to be seeing it from modders one day down the road.
What's even dumber than buying Marvel's Avengers while the game is getting cancelled in 2 weeks?
- Buying a PlayStation.
The bold part isn't accurate. Sony's sole ownership over Spider-Man is in film - that's what the original deal was for when Marvel were selling off IPs.
You can easily see this just based on any number of non-Sony developed/published/platform exclusive games featuring the character: Marvel's Midnight Suns, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Marvel Heroes Online, Marvel Snap, Marvel Future Fight, about a half dozen other Marvel mobile games beyond just those two.. etc. If you play any of these games you'll see no mention of Spider-Man being licensed by Sony, because they don't need to.
This was done similar to how they paid Bungie for PS-exclusive content back during Destiny 1's release (a weapon and I think two strike maps?), and have been doing the same with CoD for years.
Even the Sony Spider-Man games were the result of Insomniac's decision. Marvel approached Sony about making a first-party style game (I believe after MS had turned them down), and Sony went to Insomniac as the studio for it. But it was Insomniac who chose Spidey as the character they'd base the game around.
Sony have to pay Disney to get Spiderman IP for games.
I bought Marvels Avengers on PS4 too at 90% off to get Spiderman.
No he doesn't.
What is even more dumper are people who dont realize that this is not Live Service game and that just because they delisting it, doesnt mean you wont be able to play the game 2.3.4.10 years from now
Servers have been turned off since January this year, they only ever had the cosmetics shop anyways. The game itself has always been peer to peer co-op, and it will remain playable in peer to peer co-op even after the delisting date.
