Free to play when??
Now that the game is dead, when can we expect it to go Free to Play?

Marvel's Avengers has always felt "free to play," but with a price tag.

I played in all the betas, and I knew right away this game wasn't going to make it as buy to play. It could however survive if it went free to play with just the optional cosmetics shop.

The jankyness of the game, the small maps, broken objectives, repetitive gameplay loop, the gear score grind. The game never felt like it was worth it's price tag to me.

However, as a free to play game, I might pop in from time-to-time to play with friends in between other games. Might event spend a couple of bucks on a holiday skin, like Santa Iron-Man/Hulk (if that were ever a thing.)

It's not going to be free to play. It is going to be delisted. Meaning the game will be removed from all digital storefronts, Steam included. If you own the game you can still play it. At the end of March, all of the DLC will be free, again if you own the game.

EDIT:

The game will be delisted in September.

The game might show up in a Humble Bundle. I'll wait it out.

I've seen this happen multiple times, though.

After it's delisted, someone will pick it up and it'll either be back as free to play, or they'll try to milk it again. Probably THQ Nordic, those guys own everything. lol

That's how free to play games make money, durr.

It can't just keep going with NO revenue at all. It's not that people aren't buying MTX, they aren't buying the game at all. Avengers only averages like 200 players, people who already bought the game, no new revenue is coming in.

If the game went free to play, those numbers could potentially multiply by 10, a percentage of whom would buy cosmetics from the shop. A cool Iron-Man skin, or a Holiday themed item.

That's how it's always worked. It's not ever going to be 100% free.

You can't "pick it up* after the game is delisted. That's not how it works. The publishers and developers still own the rights to the game and they are not reselling it. They don't bring back games as free to play after they are delisted.

You need to read what the publishers developers are actually saying. There is no mention of bringing the back the game as free to play. As mentioned, what is the point of bringing the game back as free to play when all the cosmetics are going to be giving away for free?

By all means, please post an example of where a delisted game has been brought back as free to play. Because most delisted games do not even have a store page anymore.

The game might show up in a Humble Bundle. I'll wait it out.

It already is on Humble Bundle at $7.79 for the next five days.

The DLC was always free. What will be free beginning March 31st is anything cosmetic-related. This includes Outfits, Nameplates, Emotes, and Takedowns offered in the Marketplace; Shipments; and Challenge Cards.

Sir, do you have any idea how many games are delisted, then bought out by someone else, and then relisted again for a quick cash grab??

I'm telling you, it's not gone forever.

How many of those "many delisted games" involve the licensing fees for major Marvel / Disney characters? Because I can't think of any other Marvel game that got delisted ever having come back under someone else's management...

I mean in a bundle where it'll sell along with six games for, like, eight bucks.

Not that simple. This game is getting delisted because of the Marvel license. Go back and you will see a history of Marvel games getting delisted when the license expires.
