to upgrade your gear you need to have another piece of higher power level to upgrade it with. for example, if you have all 140PL gear equipped, you won't be able to upgrade any of it until you find another piece that is 141 or higher.

This new upgrade system is terrible! What good are resources now if not to upgrade gear?

When I find a higher PL gear that's better than what I currently have, my first instinct is to equip it, not sacrifice it to upgrade a lower PL gear!

In theory, it lets the piece of gear with the stat and perk combo that works for you to stay with you no matter the current cap, but don't think current gear we have accesses to works with the new upgrade mechanics.

Example: so many times I get loot semi like, but its missing a key stat or one or more clash with the playstyle I want.

Think they need further expand the gear system because right now, new loot is pointless unless RNG blesses us with absolutely perfect roll of stats and perks.

I will agree that the loot & the gear in this game are not good anymore. Not being able to even level up gear now until you've gotten to a certain level is kinda ridiculous IMO and should be allowed from earlier levels like it previously was... especially from a new players perspective.

not to mention there are only 2 activities that give 140+ gear, OLT's and the raid. this in turn makes all other content irrelevant to endgame players, but accelerates the feeling of burn out because the sheer amount of redundancy of speed running the OLT and raid.

there's nothing more discouraging than realizing your build isn't over the top enough to focus down SA fast enough before the game goes full r3t4rd and just throws everything at you and calls it "challenge".

build diversity is punished in this game because if you don't gear towards a ranged/valor style build (good luck with those melee combos against SA) feel free to correct me, but thanks to the cheesy, overabundant use of knockback/juggles, one-shots, and instadeath "mechanics", cat and mouse melee just seems to be a nightmare. that's another rant for another day/post i suppose...

SA = Super Adaptoid

I think this was there way of trying to force people into the OLT and raid. At least for me, I stopped playing. This was a casual game for me, nothing serious but when the update came out and there was zero change to upgrade gear at all unless I farmed OLT or raid; I said, ok, finally done for now.

To be fair, the increased power level is not needed for anything else than unlocking a harder version of the raid. So they are not forcing you into playing the raid unless you want to unlock the hardest version of the raid. And if you are willingly playing it, it's not really forcing you is it?

There is no expansion gated behind the new power level cap like there would be in Destiny or in a typical MMORPG.

So why would you want to reach the new power cap if you are not interested in the raid? The game is still casual, now it just has something tangible to offer to non-casuals too.

it seems you're losing sight of the point of a looter. this isn't a jab at you or sarcasm, but who plays a looter in which the point is to acquire the best gear the game has to offer only to settle for less leaving the player "feeling" as though they're at a disadvantage overall? its all psychological. but no less a sensation of FOMO and/or incompletion.

whether or not its only for the sake of access to harder raid content. what good is it to take that perspective when you'd want the better gear going INTO the raid. my original point on gear was rooted in believing there should be more ways to get 140+ gear and only having the raid and OLTs as a source of said gear makes the experience more painful.

i feel they should have separated the new gear power levels into tiers based on what content you're doing.

vaults,warzones.standard/standard priority missions - up to PL140
hives, villain sectors, hard priority mission, flashbacks - up to PL145
elite hives/vaults, tach rifts - up to PL 150
megahive - up to 160 - after weekly drop is obtained, a guaranteed legendary will drop. this will give relevance to repeat runs of the mega hive and also add a guaranteed legendary drop at the end of each step.

casual or hardcore this game's loot system is one of it's most damning qualities.

Ya, there are 6 gear pieces to upgrade (4 armor and 2 minor artifact). You get 2 upgrades a week, so to advance gear to the next level (142 to 144 etc) requires a mandatory 3 weeks in between.

When the game first released, it took me 2 weeks to fully level one hero through casual play. Now they want 3 weeks for 2 levels. I want more things to do, not more ways to level up.

And if I do reach maximum level, what am I going to do? Fight the exact same things that I fought on my journey to max level. Yay.

I know you've been pretty die-hard about this game & it even sounds like your starting to get defeated/bored by it. :steamsad:

I was just placing myself into YTTH's boots there, since he is not interested in the raid. In looter games the best loot should indeed be gated behind the hardest content(risk vs reward & bigger the accomplishment, bigger the reward) and I am fine with that, I'm interested in grinding the OLT and raid alike and want to unlock the harder raid difficulty.

I was just saying that in this game if you don't want to grind the new endgame then you don't need the new maximum power level for anything at all. In many other games the new max level caps are much more essential to reach. This has its pros and cons just like those you've thought out too.

My guess is that they are going to gradually add more raids and these will have higher PL requirements, while granting new skills only unlockable with XP gained from the raids. That was in the leaked plans for 2022 at least. Fighting the same things over and over while grinding loot is unfortunately what looter games tend to be all about. It's entertaining up until the player gets bored of it.
