And she was chosen well. There is no other Marvel character who represents us all who got into Marvel comics as kids, as well as Kamala does.
Its why a long time back I made a post saying in a purely mechanical, kamala has one of the best power sets for a superhero game (if you count all her normal comic powers ex: she can shrink as well as grow or can become flat) Think the only downside is Kamala's rouge gallery is rather...pathetic. Not enough villains that have a serious tone. But power wise she has everything needed for traversal, puzzle solving, combat and stealth.
Franklin Richards used to be the inner kid of Marvelites, but he was always a bit too young until the recent skip to a teenager. But Kamala is a fangirl, an actual comic book nerd, while Franklin just played with the toys as a kid. His powerset was based on the imaginary games of little kids too, literally creating worlds of adventure.
There are plenty of Young Avengers of course where a character could have been picked from, Kate Bishop is one of them too, but none of them are comic book nerds like Kamala. The story of the game just makes her so damn relatable.
With other characters of her generation they would have needed to go with a different angle altogether, missing out on the comic book fan stuff entirely.
To be honest, shes one of my favorite characters in the game. I loved following her story (the main campaign I thought was phenomenal), and I genuinely enjoy playing her.
SHE feels like a super hero vs ... Bow character #1, Bow Character #2...
And cool sunglasses.
But yeah, not every superhero is a superhuman and it's important that we have this variety.
The deal is that there are people on the internet who hate Kamala Khan, it's just one hate trend among many others. And a lot of people want to be sheep who follow trends. Reading her books and actually finding out how well she's written isn't a trend, so relatively few people ever find out she's one of the best new superheroes from Marvel in a long time.
