game stopped saving?
i was able to play right up till the first iron man mission, about half way through however my game just closed without warning, and now when i turn it back on i keep getting an error "something went wrong while attempting to save. make sure the game has write access to the save game folder and its contents" and then gives me my folder location.. what would cause this? i tried verifying files to fix but no success now i am re-isntalling and hoping i dont have to start the campaign from scratch. kinda sucks paying $80 (cad ) for this to happen. if anyone has any input i'd appreciate it

Do you have ransomware protection from an antivirus? They usually protect documents folder by default

Could also be corrupted saves. Your saves are in documents/marvel avengers/

Back them all up, turn off cloud saves in steam, then rename one of the backups to the main file

i'll give that a try, though i'm in the middle of re-installing now, really hoping i won't have to start from scratch. i just think it's weird it took a few days to detect it, if it's my anti-virus. how would a save become corrupt if i may ask? don't understand something of that nature.

Usually it would be through a crash but I'm just guessing about all of it.

i have re-installed, backed up, turned off cloud, checked my AV, and i still get the error =( so every time i close my game it boots me back to ironmans first mission in campaign no matter my progress

I have the same issue. It's something else than just corrupted saves. I tried by removing entirely the save folder and start anew, but the message immediately appears the moment you skip the intro scene. Like the message says, it should involve something preventing the game to write the save file but I don't know what.

As strange as this may sound, I tried the easiest and most obvious solution: restarting the PC. And it worked. Hopefully it will for you too.

This started happening for one of our family members on Sunday after the patch. We tried many things such as restoring files from backups, toggling off Steam cloud, confirming ownership of the save directory, and a few other things.

What finally resolved the problem today was moving the Documents folder back to its original location; it had been in a custom location and I'm not sure if the patch suddenly made the game dislike long file path lengths, or if it was something else, but once we did this and deleted the "savebk" files (which seemed to be the ones having issues for us), the game runs--and more importantly, saves progress--quite happily.

I read if using a trainer it has caused this issue when trying to get unlimited skill points. or trying to edit the game while playing.

I know for a fact that in our case there was no trainer/hack/editor used.

thanks to you I was also able to correct this beugl one because it was indeed the anti ransomware agent which prevented the game from saving :)
(sorry for the broken english)

Great advice,

I'm software developer and like usual people usually forget the most simple solutions, i didn't thought on add-in the game to the ransomware exceptions on windows defender.
