Warning You Will Lose Everything

before we get into re-install the game, lower graphics, restart pc or any of the other normal tech report responses trust me when I say I've done them all.


here is my problem if you feel like reading.....simple solution add a 'stuck button' in the game.


I played the game for 11 hours before beating the campaign.

I then went into the Avengers Initiative mode and wondered a bit around the ship. I spoke with the npc that sells emotes, skins and the UI bugged (no way to escape the screen)

I then logged out of the game and logged back in to find myself stuck let me explain what I mean by stuck.

My current character is iron man and when I login most of the ship assets load but my spawn point is under the ship. The only NPC's that drop under the ship with me are the avengers team so I'm able to Interact with them.

I'm unable to do anything in the game besides explode the bottom of the ship where you'll find nothing but messed up textures and if you jump off you will fall forever and never die/respawn.

After beating the Campaign this SUCKED because I'm unable to play the game.

I dug deeper into the game and found my profile folder

C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Marvel's Avengers

I noticed one save file save1_1.dat and a bunch of back ups savebk_1.dat etc.

the backups all had the same timestamp and were all the same file size.

I decided to leave my profile1.dat in place and delete all the save files.

re-loading the game even with my account linked and 'cloud sync' I lost all progress (I'd expect this for campaign) but when I say all progress I lost all gears, all skins unlocked everything.

My battle pass progress remained and I'm assuming anything bought with real money would also remain.

the problem I have here is how do I get back to the state I was in before this bug without resetting my entire profile and losing everything?

does this mean that like borderlands you will be able to import profiles that have everything unlocked, the best gear and then play co-op?


anyway if you read this far my warning or not so much warning is if you get stuck you're screwed.

There is no cloud save of any kind for this game, including Steam cloud.

The only information stored remotely are your MTX credits, MTX store purchases, and battle pass progress.

Something to try should this happen again is having a friend or a random person invite you to their game via Steam Friends and completing a match with them, then having them take you to their Heli-Carrier.

Totes having someone invite me to a game does sound promising but I have nobody available for that. If only the return to the jet button wasn't disabled :|.

As far as getting your lost stuff back, can you restore the files from the recycle bin?

yea you can backup your local save and restore it with no problem I could send you my profile and you could load my stuff.

I did restore all my items I'm just stuck and don't want to replay and unlock everything again.

What? Then what stops people from hacking into the save files and unlocking everything that can be unlocked outside of MTX??

Something similar has happened to me, but I did not erase, nothing, I had been playing for about 10 hours and when I entered the wartable with the widow, 2 crashes in a row, and when I entered for the third time my progress had disappeared, I had to start the campaign from the beginning. I have written a ticket to Square to see if there is a solution, because it seems so weird that this can happen on Steam .....

refunded the game because of this didn't feel like dealing with starting over or waiting for them to apply a fix or or or I could have edited the game memory my x,y,z location and poped myself back on the jet but not worth the time.

you misunderstood what i posted the profile will pull down and resync it just identifies me its saved on the server side. the saves are local and yes i deleted it on purpose then restored it and tried a few other things.

You can't refund a game you've played for over 2 hours so I don't understand what the issue is? If you played under 2 hours you are losing almost no progress in a looter shooter with a 14 hour campaign anyway.

I refunded both the game and dlc to get $80 back and had 11 hours played. maybe since it was a pre-order the rules are different? I 100% received a refund took about 40 mins for the emails to come in saying i've been refunded to paypal and in steam the game says 'purchase' again.

I played 11.5 hours and you lose that entire time with what you unlocked through the campaign like the outfits, items, levels etc. due to the way things are stored. so yes you lose alot in this looter shooter game. this is when i figured out the saves are local and it didn't matter I could modify my save files or get someone elses to get the 'ULTIMATE GEAR'

the game is ♥♥♥♥ and the only thing appealing is its Marvel and that's the bait.

You can request a refund on any game, the guidelines posted are for refunds without special considerations outside of refund frequency.

A request like the one the other guy mentioned would be manually reviewed then approved or denied depending on circumstance.

Can you go to the anthill in the utah badlands section? Maybe that can reset the spawn point? Like, can you join a friend, have the friend leave, select mission, go to the utah section and just go to the anthill?

I've already refunded the game but no you can't do anything I spent 3 hours or so just trying to glitch myself out to reset my spawn. I was technically under the jet and if you jumped off the map you fall forever (actually forever). you have nothing to interact with and cant use skills...all the save files were dups of each other so even renaming the 2,3rd,4th,5th as your main save didn't matter. the only way to reset the spawn would have been if the 'return to jet' button was enabled which it wasn't (it thought i was on the jet) or by dieing (you can't)...if i had abilities (you don't on the jet) then i could have prob flown back up.

the having a friend invite you idea might work but I don't socialize or play games with people so that ruled that out.

So basically you screwed yourself over intentionally and then couldn't be assed to fix it.

As for the bug, yes I encountered that too, but I didn't exit the game at that point. Instead I actually bought an emote and then everything worked. It seems like a good thing I did not exit. Sometimes the UI seems to take a little while to load in.
