Well I wouldn't be interested in taking that route myself, but it makes me wonder how long the online will last as long as stat manipulation is possible. Imagine you wanted to pug a raid group or something just to enjoy the story but someone just one shots everything on the map and just kills the experience for you.
This sort of thing will just make PvP (if considered) a total waste of time if you played legit as well.
On the upside, this is promising for the longevity of the game (i.e. not dependent on Square to maintain the servers) and the potential for mods to one day be created. This also enables those who have the time and are interested to gain access to things gated by MTX without spending money.
On the downside, yes it is likely the online will feature a decent number of edited characters unless they implement some form of check or safe guard for the most egregious offenders. Also, there is no feeling of permanence or safety that often comes from having your character and progress data stored server-side.
Overall, it does seem an incredibly odd choice for a game that has been heavily marketed and portrayed as a live service in the vein of Destiny or Diablo 3.
Ideally, I would like them to have a split option similar to how Diablo 2 handled this, wherein you can create a server-side character, or a local character, and that character would only be able to interact and play with others of the same type. This option I feel gives the best of both worlds and I hope is something they explore in the near-future. How they would implement this now, with the game already live and prone to save editing, however, would be quite a challenge to overcome for sure.
god forbid they store more information about our account like gear, unlocks i mean it wouldn't make sense to do that though and add a checksum to validate what you have is what you own.
good job to them for using Marvel to play on our emotions and just turn into another borderlands
Played offline died in what, 1995?
Half-life 2 began the always online era, in 2004. Online games first appeared in the 1970's though.
Some of us play games for story and gameplay. ♥♥♥♥ loot.
On the other hand, after having seen the beta and twitch videos, I'm seriously considering requesting a refund, because I wasn't looking for Destiny lite.
The game was advertised as a looter shooter, get a brain.
If you want a single player experience, refund now.
