Message from the Devs

The issues you find down below are the biggest issues we gathered so far. Fear not, we also noted down smaller issues or complaints from fewer players. We would like to focus on the most frequent issues for the moment.

Apart from that, we will try to improve the basic systems and mechanics further. The more details you guys can give us about how a bug came to pass the easier it gets for our devs to get to the bottom of it. Even if it happens to you all the time, it does not mean that it is easily reproducible for us or that it happens to all the players. There are multiple factors at play we need to take into consideration so please bear with us.

We are listening to all of you and are sorry for any inconveniences this might cause you. You guys are the best!

Common Misconceptions

Deduction of conduct points for unjustified actions
  • Please make sure that the action was indeed justified!
  • Common mistakes include taxi or handicapped vehicles: The license plate features a small tag below the number which identifies the car as either a taxi, handicapped or a normal civilian vehicle. Handicapped vehicles are allowed to park in front of expired parking meters
  • Read through the tooltips and the handbook: For example, parking on the sidewalk refers to vehicles with 1 or 2 tires on the sidewalk. If the whole car is parked on the sidewalk (or somewhere else without proper markings) it is justified to fine for "no parking zone" and towing is also allowed.
  • Carefully read the tooltips and the handbook to get used to the complex circumstances
  • We will try to include further player guidance and tutorials to explain those edge cases better in the future
Date Format
  • We're using American date format: MM/DD/YYYY and not DD/MM/YYYY

Known Issues & Bugs


Crash - Fatal Error
  • We have already fixed a couple of crashes but some still remain
  • We are working on the remaining crashes!
  • Any additional info or crash logs would be helpful, please send us the crash log you can find here: C:\Users\"USER"\AppData\Local\Boston\Saved\Crashes (you can type %localappdata%\Boston\Saved\Crashes into Windows search to quickly move to that folder!)

Performance / Frame Rate issues
  • We kindly ask you to double-check the minimum specs and make use of our ingame hardware detection to adjust the settings
  • Try setting the game to a lower graphical quality (for now!)
  • We will constantly work on performance but this is a bigger and more difficult topic :(

Player car being hit by NPVs is sent flying - leading to shift fail
  • Workaround: You can use the casual/simulation options to adjust the penalties you get for being involved in an accident (this only solves it temporarily though).
  • We will look into this!

Clipping vehicles / Ambulance / transport / NPVs
  • Hard to prevent completely - very complex traffic system.
  • We will try our best to improve this further!
  • Any form of reproduction steps and screenshots and videos are helpful!
  • Possible workaround: Only call one backup vehicle at a time!

Mouse getting stuck in center or corner of the screen
  • Possible Workaround: This might be related to any plugged-in USB devices such as controllers - unplugging them should fix this for the moment.
  • Meanwhile, we are working on a proper fix but again would kindly ask you for any information you can give us on the issue: How does it happen? When does it happen?

Floating cars
  • Floating cars at accident sites - we would need as much information on how to reproduce this as possible. Were you able to reliably reproduce the issue? Is there a certain pattern you see? This one is tricky :(

Shift over - dispatcher's voice keeps one stating the shift is over after already interacting with the police computer
  • We reduced the frequency and are evaluating additional solutions for an overtime feature!

Driving the car and unintentionally turning / veering to the right
  • Possible workaround: This might be as well connected to connected USB devices - try unplugging them!
  • Please also give us as much info as possible on that: Which devices are plugged in, are you using controllers or only mouse and keyboard, does it always happen? Did you check what happens with a different device?
  • We will try to improve steering/vehicle physics!

Precinct doors won't open after a car patrol
  • This should only happen when on car patrol, and also then only when starting in Historic Downtown.
  • The precinct where you started should always open the doors - only the other neighborhoods do not open.
  • We will try to fix this!

Tow truck arriving with a car already on it / Tow truck keeps loading ghost vehicles on top of each other
  • Again we kindly ask you to send us as much info as possible about this one - nasty little bugger ;(
  • Should only happen when lots of tow trucks are called during one shift. This should reset every shift again.

Savegames lost after exiting to the menu or leaving the game
  • This might have something to do with writing rights on your machine - make sure that Steam and the game are allowed to write the savegames onto your hard drive - try running the game as admin!
  • Check if your antivirus is maybe blocking those savegames
  • Check the local folder for existing savegames: C:\Users\”USER”\AppData\Local\Boston\Saved\SaveGames
  • We will check this out further but we would need additional info as well!

Voice overs not in-game
  • Check the audio settings for the different volume settings
  • Possible workaround: For some people, it helped to switch the language in the menu back and forth a couple of times
  • We will check this out!

Pulled over vehicles / blipped vehicles stand still
  • For most cases we saw the reason was that the emergency light/siren is on and therefore vehicles tried to make room or simply stop for the player to pass.
  • Workaround: So when you want to blip someone, make sure that your siren/lights are not on!
  • Sometimes it can take a little longer until a blipped vehicle finds a spot
  • The traffic system is quite complex and finding a spot is not as easy for the vehicle as it might seem to you
  • Give it a couple seconds / sometimes they even need to drive around the block to find one
  • We will try to improve this anyway!

Widescreen/ ultrawide monitors
  • We hear you but at the moment we need to focus on the game-breaking bugs first :(
  • Please give us detailed feedback about your resolution and the experienced problem
  • We will try to look at this as soon as the major ones (above) are resolved!

Patrol car respawns with pre shift state (e.g. damaged, or activated siren or lights)
  • This is a known issue we are trying to fix!

Accident Witnesses or vehicles just vanish or leave the scene without being let go
  • We kindly ask you to send us as much info as possible about this one as well: How does it happen? When does it happen?

Hi wladi, I understand that Procedure is a BIG part of this game, but there are procedures that today's Police follow that are not be implemented correctly here.

Ive had many issues while doing a crash investigation a car drives right through everyone and critically injures me which i have to restart the day over. This has happend multiple times. I have seen cars flying into the sky and falling back down.
Also a guy was .16 alcohol while driving and i got -10 points for arresting him.

As far as performance goes. My rig far outshines the recommended specs you list on the store page. I have basically double everything you recommend and way better gpu than a 6gb 1060 lol Still have frame rate issues. I watch players with 2080's struggle. Needs better optimization. That's my only gripe. Other than that, love the game, can't wait for you to improve and add to it!

As for the "unjustified handcuffing" and "unjustified call for arrest" bugs at traffic stops, I have been posting detailed information on what specific situations seem to trigger this bug (and my theory on why it occurs) in the thread about it here on this bug subforum. In short, it seems to result from the game not recognizing DUI alcohol/drug test results as "positive" when the testing is done on someone at/from a traffic stop (specifically). This results in no "justification" for the subsequent actions taken by the player to follow up on the positive result (i.e., handcuffing them and calling for their arrest). The player gets points for administering the drug/alcohol test at the traffic stop, but the game seemingly does not take note of the positive result whenever the testing is done at a traffic stop, and thus any searches or handcuffing or arrest is viewed by the game as "unjustified," even though the player assumes (correctly) that it is completely justified because they saw the positive result on the test. Again, this seems limited to testing done at traffic stops specifically. The post-encounter "detailed information" shows that DUI testing done at traffic stops is handled differently by the game. The "detailed information" for a justified DUI test at a non-traffic stop encounter like an accident lists "Justified DUI Drug/Alcohol Test (Positive)" while the "detailed information" for a justified DUI test at a traffic stop just lists "DUI Drug/Alcohol Test at Traffic Stop", with no mention of the result of the test itself. It seems like whenever there's testing being done at a traffic stop, the game just recognizes that the testing has been done, but doesn't note what the results were, so that it can't justify the player's actions based on those results.

I believe I have studied this particular bug to the point where I can reliably reproduce it at will, so I'd be happy to provide more information directly to the developers or perhaps stream a demonstration of the bug on a discord channel or something like that if they'd be interested...

I would assume that part of the not-so authentic procedure is that the devs decided to do handcuffs in front, while that's usually only reserved for special situations.

Floating cars

Unfortunately with this there's no way to reproduce, it just happens randomly. I for instance got a accident call, I accepted and turned up on scene as normal and then saw floating cars and peds and an upside down car and ped.

Is it possible you could somehow make the game write to a log file on the PC that captures information about any calls you accept? Such as what vehicles were spawned, location of vehicles, etc. I don't know if that would be any use, though.
