I asked a civilian for their ID. Upon checking the computer, on the right side, under "Vehicle Information", I have a bit that says "Registration status .......... Invalid". I have no idea what this means, in practice.

This means that you can make the ticket for an expired license plate for this NPC. Of course, if the asking for the id was justified.
This means that the vehicle is not registered.

So if I had checked the license plates, I would've noticed they had expired?

The asking was justified, no worries there. The civilian had been involved in an accident.

That's another thing: on one occasion, an NPC has given me insurance information for a car that was not registered to them. However, the information on the insurance card matched the car they were driving. Does that mean the insurance information is fake, or that the car is stolen, or something like that?

No, in case the vehicle was stolen it must be "reported as stolen" (you can see this in the vehicle information tab) If NPC gives you valid insurance and the vehicle is not stolen all is alright. Maybe his friend give it to him on a ride)

Didn't think the game went that far, to be honest. Thanks for the information.

If you could, what's the progress on the infinite loading bug when trying to join a friend's game? I reported it yesterday, but I found reports going all the way back to May, which has me more than a little worried. Is there any way I can help, any information you could use?

EDIT: I just read your comment in another thread saying what could cause this infinite loading issue (being in different districts due to different levels, for instance). If that's the case, you need to add some sort of prompt that explains this, or just have the host's level determine the things (districts, equipment, crimes, etc.) to which all players have access.

If you could, what's the progress on the infinite loading bug when trying to join a friend's game? I reported it yesterday, but I found reports going all the way back to May, which has me more than a little worried. Is there any way I can help, any information you could use?

Regarding infinite loading, it should be fixed at v17093 if this issue is still present probably it will be fixed in the next update. For now, I can only advise you to invite the friend in a different way or let him connect by himself.

The infinite loading only occurs when trying to join a friend's game. On my end, he shows up as having 0/30 stars, but never actually joins.

If v17093 is the latest version of this game, then, no, it wasn't fixed. Unless it hasn't been released yet.

Turns out he had tried that, he just didn't tell me. And it didn't work either.
