What is the deal with everyone wanting to use a gun?
Maybe this is because I'm in the UK and work in the service but I honestly can't understand the desire everyone has to use a gun. From a purely gameplay stance it seems like the least fun way to resolve any incident and from a realism approach, apart from America, you don't see many routine beat police incidents needing to end in a broad daylight shootout.

What is the obsession with this request?

It's the fact that in america depending on the state people will be more likely to have a gun, at any point it could be used against a police officer, police officers usually draw a weapon first so they are ready so they have a higher chance of surviving or shooting first, no sane cop wants to shoot, but as they say in reality tv show documentries, if it comes down to it, they intend to go home to their families after each shift.

It's just to even the playing field where a firearm is common, it's also why american security guards have pistols too.

I'm from the UK too so having weapons be an almost common thing to the point where even security guards or civillian external hip holsters (in select states) for you to open carry feels unusual.

Police having weapons and using, or even drawing, them are two very different things.

There's no real need for this game to have guns because it's a simulation. A simulation doesn't include everything and shouldn't, because the more you add the less depth all those things have. The developers chose to focus on the elements of law enforcement that don't involve gun violence, just as Ready or Not focuses EXCLUSIVELY on violence.

Is Ready or Not a bad game because you don't write parking tickets? No. It'd be stupid to add that to a game hyperfocused on SWAT elements.

Similarly, Patrol Officers focuses on the situations that crop up on a regular officer's patrol, as opposed to the once-a-month or rarer crises they'd even consider drawing a weapon.

There is a difference between drawing a weapon and using it!

Of course, every police officer (probably almost all over the world) has a pistol. Depending on the situation, it is also quickly drawn in order to be ready to fire. Aiming to emphasize a demand is also common in many parts of the world.

All of this is also possible in the game.

However, in order to shoot (also in most parts of the world... including the USA) there needs to be a reason such as a threat, attack, danger prevention or emergency aid.

However, such situations do not exist in the game (yet).

So how do you come up with the idea of wanting to shoot people in the game?

Ask any police officer (USA, UK, Germany, France, etc.) how often they have actually had to shoot someone.

In relation to their general everyday police work.

And who knows? Maybe there will be a game update in which there are situations in which you are "allowed" to shoot someone?

yeah, im English as well, the police having guns would be unrealistic, ive never once seen a police man carrying a gun before, in fact... ive never seen a gun in real life with my own eyes before, ive only ever seen guns on telly.
Also: Why on earth does the game say that its set in Brighton (which is an English city), but yet the game is actually set in America... wtf... would've been interesting if the game was set in Brighton because its the gay capital of England lol, im going to Brighton next month in August to go to gay pride there

The city of Brighton is a fictional American city in the fictional state of Franklin.

The game was originally supposed to take place in Boston. Which is why this name can be found in the game files.

Everything else in the game is American, too. Including the laws and police code of conduct.

And in the USA (America in general) and in most European countries, police officers do carry pistols.

So that part is absolutely realistic.

How often and to what extent these are used or even fired in practice varies from country to country and even between US states and cities. But generally it is quite rare to extremely rare.

The reality is most of you live on an island or a small country. The US is the size of a half a continent with porous borders. You also sound like you think only good people carry guns. The reality is the southern border and Mexican cartels bring more guns into the US than any military or weird US guy could. So the guns are already here regardless of any laws.

So we welcome our freedom to protect our families. The cops don't ever show up in time in America....you're on your own to protect your family.

Our second amendment rights is what separates the US from every other country in the world. Thanks to you Brits, we "should" never allow that to happen again...... 1776
