Fake or Stolen
While investigating a collision I am handed an ID from a woman on scene that was driving one of the cars involved in the collision. In the database it shows a different picture than what is on the ID. I charge the woman on scene for possession of a fake ID and penalized CP points. I then charge her for possession of a stolen ID and rewarded with SP points. So my question is this, as the officer how am I suppose to know that this ID is stolen and not fake? I do see both sides of the coin here but this woman I'm arresting may have gotten the information of the woman in the database some how, then completely made the ID herself and put her face on it, making it a fake ID with stolen information on it. Sure there is the possibility that the woman I'm arresting got physical possession of another woman's ID and just put here face onto it but in real life, as the officer how am I suppose to know which scenario it is?

In game the way you tell what to charge with is doing the background check with the police computer. If no data comes up (the screen will show no record or something like that) its Fake, if a profile appears and its not the same person, its stolen.

OK a follow up. I'm investigating a new crash and handed a "stolen" ID and awarded SP points when arrested for a stolen ID but my question now is this.... the driver on scene handed me an insurance card for the vehicle they were driving but the vehicle in the database does not show the vehicle on scene is the one registered to the driver nor does it show any vehicle was stolen. How can this be??

You can arrest someone for fake insurance. If they give you an insurance card but it's not in the police computer that's what it means.

what About when you focus on a plate and the police computer cant find the plate either pops up same as a fake id screen. also if someone has a fake id we as officers don't know if they have a gun permit. reason i say is that i've found one and charged them and lost CP.

Just going to get the elephant out of the room real quick: It's actually very easy to distinguish the difference between a stolen ID and a fake one.

A fake ID means the person you are arresting is using an alias and not their real name. Check the name on their ID card, then compare it with the name in the database.

A stolen ID is one where the suspect's mugshot (picture) on their ID does not match the one in the database.

Hope this information helps.

Side note: When the suspect hands you their ID, read it very carefully, then press "C" to open the database. Do not return their ID until you have confirmed whether or not there are any discrepancies between their ID and the information in the database.

Replying to my most recent comment: If a suspect's name does not appear in your database they are carrying a fake ID.
What does it mean when you take someone's id and text is red in the data base? I just pulled someone over and it says they have no gun permit but the no is red, then it says insurance & registration are invalid but invalid is red, and then it says they have an open warrant but yes is red... Help?

if u search a suspect and they have a gun when they don’t have a gun permit it’s an arrest but if they have no gun and the no is in red they r ok
open warrant is an immediate arrest
Registration is license plate on vehicle it’s a citation or ticket for expired license plate same for insurance if the insurance is invalid it’s a ticket for no valid insurance
also if u find a switchblade on the suspect it’s an arrest
but on the expiration of the license plate and the no valid insurance u do have the option to give them a warning

No if it’s blank and it says wanted it’s a fake id according to the game if the picture or information doesn’t match up with what the license plate information says when u focus on a license plate and do a background check it’s a stolen id
It will give u a prompt that says profile doesn’t exist the requested profile couldn’t be found in the system
if u get that prompt the id is fake and it’s an immediate arrest
