MM / DD / YYYY.
If the tag is has a 19 sticker, its expired, if it has a 20 sticker and the month is between JAN - APR its expired, if it has a 21 sticker its NOT expired.
BTW the same applies to the expiration on the ID and Insurance cards.
You have to check BOTH stickers, top left corner on plate is month, top right corner on plate is year. Usually just check the year, 19 is expired, 20 look at the month sticker, and 21 not expired.
What is an Expired License Plate?
An expired licenses plate is a license plate on a vehicle that is past due. You can check the in-game date in the top left-hand corner of your screen once a shift begins. Your first shift is on 5/4/2020. There are three different possible dates for a license plate when you start out: 2019, 2020, 2021, and possibly 2022. Anyhow, on the top right-hand corner of the back of a vehicle you can see a number that is either 19, 20, or 21.. If the year on the license plate is before the year in-game, the license plate is expired. If the year is current, you need to do a little more digging. Check the month. Because you start in the month of May, I will use April as an example. Since April comes before may (January, February, March, and April) it is considered an expired plate.
Offenses
Once an officer sees an expired plate on a vehicle, the officer can choose to do the following:
This isn't from the handbook is it? Also we can tow expired plates??
Hello! I am unsure if some of this information was included in the handbook, as I only search for things I needed, and now remember mostly everything that I have learned along the way. You are allowed to tow expired plates and get extra shift points. I did not know this at the start of playing, but as I tested giving citations, I also tested towing vehicles.
Well taught me something too then, thanks!

A lot of vehicles will have this blockage. When this happens, head to the front.

2019's are in red.

2020's are in green. It only counts as expired when the next month occurs. So if the game says this shift is 6/11/2020 then every plate in May is now expired.

2021's are in blue.
2022's aren't in the game yet as that's a crap ton of shifts to complete to even make it 19 months worth.
thanks for all the help! Just a quick note. An experied license plate does not justify towing. At least it should not. Since you can have multiple infractions maybe another issue justified towing in your situation?
You can check the ingame handbook or this online one here:
