Remote Play: Friend can't join my game

Hello,

I got the game and haven't got any problems myself. I already played with my friend this game before (last year 2020) and we wanted to go on but since January it isn't working anymore.

When he tries to join the game he got a black screen, the game crashes in the loading screen but he still hears the music. I see that he is joining and that he got a controller to play with me.

Our computers and drivers are completely up to date. I also checked the gamefiles for errors but steam didn't find something thats wrong. So we don't know how to solve this problem.

Hi DevioThules,

Sorry to hear you're both having this issue.

We see that he has some USB adapters for other games such as Rockstar - can you ask him to unplug this and to unplug the controller and see whether the game then loads?

Can you please also ask him to disable the Microsoft Xbox gaming overlay as this is also crashing on his PC?

We tried it like you said.
He put all USB adapters off his PC and disable Microsoft Xbox gaming overlay. (failed still black screen but he hears the sound)
Then he tried it without any controller or other USB adapter (still not working)
At last he restarted his PC again with all USB adapters off (also not working)

Still: Blackscreen and "loading mouse"-cursor but he hears the sound but cant interact with me.

Thank you for your reply and for sharing that with us.

We do see multiple crashes in their system, so let's try the following:

To reveal any possible issues with their Windows system, we would like to recommend that he please attempts the following actions:

1. Open the Windows Start Menu
   
2. Type “cmd”
   
3. Right-click on Command Prompt > Run as administrator
   
4. Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes
   
5. Press Enter
   
6. If the process has revealed/resolved and issues, please attempt to run the game again
   
7. Respond with the results

Then, can he please follow the steps in the link to perform a clean boot?
A clean boot is being used to start your Windows device using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

Windows 10

1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager.
   
2. Click More Details.
   
3. Select the Startup tab.
   
4. Right-click on each item and select Disable.
   
5. On the Services tab click to select the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox, and then tap or click Disable all.
   
6. Restart the computer.

Once this is done please launch the game to see if the issue still continues.

To re-enable your start-up programs.

1. Follow the steps above again but at steps 3 and 5 right-click and enable all of your programs and services again.
   
2. Then click Apply and restart your computer.

you should go in the steam menu settings/remoteplay/ advancedhostoption/ and desactive hardware encoding

it worked for us:)

We tried it and when I put the hardware encoding off it works.

I didn't change any options before but....well now it works ^^
