Keyboard Controls- absolute directions?
So this might be the game that finally convinced my partner and I to buy controllers.

Moving in anything other than the four cardinal directions with WASD is very difficult, and we have the added fun that on remote play if we're both pushing more than five buttons combined then at least one of our characters doesn't do the thing!

What particularly makes it near impossible is that the directional controls appear to be based on the map and absolute directions (i.e. W is always up), rather than controlling your avatar's direction related to their facing (W is always forwards).

Is there any way to change this in game? Also, how do the controls work with controllers? Will we find the same thing directions wise? Either way, I imagine it will be a lot easier as the thumbsticks won't be locked to the cardinal directions.

hey Damascus, the controllers work in the same way that up is always up. It doesnt have "tank" or "FPS" style movement due to the angle of the screen. Up is always up. I'll ask the dev team though if can add this as an option in future updates. You're the first to request it though

The Remote Play 5 key limit is interesting. I'm not sure we can get around that as it can be a limit of the physical hardware of the keyboard that controls that. I checked this https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/6669/how-do-i-remove-the-limit-on-pc-keyboard-button-presses and explains a bit more.

Thanks for the response! As we suspected, we found playing with controllers much easier, although it is a shame you can't map the controller inputs freely. We really like the level of accessibility in the game for other aspects. My partner has issues with her hands/nerves so being able to choose exactly which button does what is really helpful. We looked at all 6(?) configs (which is a great number) but unfortunately there's nothing quite right there for her.

Well, I was also searching for a possibilty to change the style of movement, so that with "W" I move forward instead of "UP". I would love if that function would be added to the game.

W didn't even move "up" for me, but rather up-right. This thing is annoyingly moving in diagonals. Glad I got it free on Epic, because I don't think I will be playing it. I have better things to do than try to figure out how to move in a game that is this messed up.
