In terms of graphics improvements I think we should see an impressive change next year (PES 2021) when new consoles will be released or maybe in 2022 when PES will support Ray Tracing. Meanwhile I agree this year PES is a reshade 2019 version with new animations. I guess we will have to adapt. anyway pes will always be better than FIFA.
...probably expected too much ^ will stick with my pes2019 career and see what modders can improve over time and wait for the next 8€ sale hehe

There are some things like audio and refs that still suck but the gameplay under the hood is a noticeable improvement and goalkeepers are much better. PES and FIFA both need to make a giant leap in the next couple of years but PES looks like it'll be worth buying again (on CD Keys)
