eFootball PES 2020

FIFA or PES ???
OMG. Tried playing PES 2020 for about 40 hours. As a 20 year veteran in soccer games I dare to say, whats wrong with people calling this new PES finally close to FIFA. ??

As I prefer FIFA for more than 20 years, I'm always hoping a good competitor will come up, and because of that, FIFA would have to lift their game too. (they are too focused on FUT, and not at all interested in getting Career mode better. . But no. PES gameplay is too far off of having fun, it's terrible..... :-( Not trying too offend people. Again, I'm soo disappointed the didnt succeed in making this better (or equal) to FIFA...
I guess I cant get a refund (again). Because I kept trying and trying and played too many hours. It's gameplay is just too far below average :-(.

a striker, gets the ball, then you have 50% change of him turning right or left and trying to shoot. OMG.

For the 3rd year I payed €60 to try and get convinced that its not just FIFA that's worth playing. But for the 3rd time (and after €180, I keep getting disappointed.

Will deinstall this PES. Say: 'nice try again", but I'll wait 1 more week and for 1 more year, enjoy FIFA, instead of PES. again...

Must say; PES' demo was pretty cool. But then the full game doesnt even come close to how the demo played.
too bad.

I've only managed to play 10 hours of PES2020 since it launched early last week, simply because it's an utterly boring game. The demo was far better and i played that on a daily basis because it was fresh and fun to play. Unfortunately i foolishly bought the game on the strength the demo which was a huge mistake.

As for FIFA having played the demo i wasn't blown away by it but it can't possibly be as bad as PES is this year, so i'll wait until the EA trial before i decide.

I can only speak from experience in both demos
Unfortunately the final version of PES 2020 plays nowhere near as good as the demo - it's almost a completely different game as highlighted in a lot of reviews. It's very misleading and people are feeling screwed over. It's made me think twice about judging demos now.
What changed? I didn't hear anything about that on the reviews...

There is 42% negative user reviews and a large amount of those talk about the differences between the demo and the final release. In short, the release game is plagued with scripting beyond anything that has ever seen before in a videogame. The entire gameplay framework is broken because of this and even offline matches against the AI are dictated by scripting instances. The controls are incredibly unresponsive and player-switching is a nightmare. I've made a guide cataloguing all the issues surrounding this

Konami are also working on a gameplay patch to be released at the end of October which will only fix a couple of other major issues.

Not many mainstream media reviews like IGN identified crippling issues like this - it was down to the paying community to give such feedback and warn users. Make of that what you will..
That's sad... I saw Gamespot and other reviews all saying how good the gameplay is...and better than fifa. I was considering switching back to PES for this season, I'm not a PES man since PES 2012. I left PES in 2012 because it was too arcady and FIFA had better simulation gameplay. Now years later it's the other way around. But both games have scripting... it's their way of keeping the noobs online spending cash.

I was really shocked that the media didn't pick any of this up. It was clear they didn't play the demo or fully understand what scripting is and how it works. It is utterly blatant as well. I can only assume they played the game on a low difficulty with top teams where scripting isn't a prominent and can be combated. The demo really feels like a completely different experience and one of the best football games since PES 6 but the full game is probably the worst for a decade easily.

Both FIFA and PES are bad this year although Konami might be able to salvage something if they remove the scripting underlay but as another user said in a different thread; it's embedded into the game likely because of the live service nature of the product and microtransactions whereas the demo was offline and used to bait people into buying despite not offering anywhere near the same experience as the final build.

FIFA is notorious for scripting and has been rightfully ridiculed for it but PES this year takes it to a whole new level and deserves equal critique. I don't think it will get it because the media have been too kind and Konami will just keep the 'constantly updating' excuses going.
Another good review, one day old:

As a (real) soccerplayer for over 15 years, theres no question.

Gameplay in PES is really realistic. And thats what i personally expect from a soccer-simulation.

Maybe FIFA with its modes has more motivation over long term. But for playing offline ML PES is just perfect.

Its a question of taste.
PES online is very bad, starting with the too short games, too much pause time. FIFA has longer halfs with less pause time. Then, on PES your opponent can skip your goal replay, that's just sad.

Have you tried eFootball2022?
It has a touch from Fifa, but you can still feel the PES DNA in this game.
Unfortunately, eFootball is currently still a demo and offers few opportunities to play.
Only personally I think it's the best gameplay I've played so far and I've been playing soccersims for a few years.
The full version with Creative Club, i.e. FUT, will come in spring.
MyClub, i.e. offline modes, will come later.
It takes a certain amount of time to understand the new controls.
I have now tried almost 80 hours on eFootball and a few days ago another round of Pes20.
No chance for me there is no turning back from eFootball2022
