Monster Summon (Capture) Question

I'm trying to obtain certain monsters but they don't seem to dropping the Talisman most I got were obtain by doing story missions.

Are the monster drop are luck related?
Day element day?

Just curious since I want to recruit tank monsters so I can use Chico in Electric collar mode.

Playing Hard Difficulty so I don't know if that cause for that to happen less.

I just don't want to pass many free day battles since I get feeling it can cause events to be missed.

*NOT TRYING TO RECRUIT MONSTER LEADERS*
Just regular summon monsters since I don't think leaders are obtainable just regular.

I can tell you for sure it isn't restricted to story missions; I've gotten most of the talismans outside of story missions.

That said, there are two summons that I absolutely cannot seem to get, and as you said, they are monsters not monster leads. I'm wondering the same thing; if its gated by weather/day of the week, or maybe story progress.

One of them, as an example, is in 'Stone Gardens'. Arch Pangolin. I eat for luck, crit-kill it, and retry when they don't drop. I tried 5-6 times, no luck

The super strong summons, the most expensive kind, are locked behind special day and upgrade unlock. You won't get em just beating them in the normal map.

What does a 'special day' unlock look like?

That's what I'm trying to get - Arch Pangolin and Lavatoise.
I got the Phoenix in story mission but I can't seem to get Arch Pangolin and Lavatoise.

I did 3 free battles for Arch no luck I even tried on leaf day still no luck.

I just don't want to grind crazy or pass many days. Plus I already played 60 hours so I want to be able to use Chico other collar not be forced to used him tanking.

It also would be helpful to have different elemental tanks since it would help on missions with certain elements.

Pangolin is a 6 star so you can't get him without playing it in the special missions.

The Lavatoise though is a 3 star so you can get that. However, you do not really need a tank in this game as long as manage your damage tool carefully and just kill the enemy with proper element chaining. There's also the insanely op double Roc (Roc + Mimic assist to clone Roc) combo.

Once you have the level 5 bike upgrade, on each day of the week except Lightning day, one of the Free Battle slots will be replaced by a mystery map named "???". You can tell which one is affected on any given day by examining each Free Battle's map name until you see a bunch of question marks. These maps are the only place that six-dot summons will drop their cards; there's one for every element except Lightning.
