Fights that I can destroy right up til the boss: Each-Ry fire guy, Each-horse looking one in robot land, and the second tier of challenge fights: the scorpion/spider and the fire guy.
They just have way too much defense and health. I can get them all down to 1/3rd health before it's over.
The level scaling is screwing up the fun for me. I never like it in games, why level up or try to get more powerful if all the enemies do too? It just evens out. I don't get it as a design idea.
Figuring out a way to stack your team against them isn't especially fun puzzle/strategy to me. All your strategy is supposed to be done before you even move your first unit, but you gotta go thru the motions of a 30 minute fight each time just to see if you are right. It's sorta removing the Tactics in favor of prep work Strategy.
Also, it seems like the solution to most all the tough fights so far is to get Pichon or a bunch of melee dudes in there to combo them. I'd like to mix it up and have my ranged units get the glory every now and again.
Frustrated.
Ok, game's good again haha.
I beat the game the first time with no grinding and about 15 gameover screens...
My end game tactic was building a single elemental team and using spells and scrolls to support it "water elemental in my case", I usually let Payachin solo bosses equipped with a level 5 Stigandr scroll while the rest of the team hold off spawns while using Claudia's ultimate on my party and Grace of NIxie spell whenever I can.
Good luck :D
But with less disdain:
You should be prioritising strategy and use every single unit to your advantage.
Try different setups, try spell talismans and gems you didn't try before. Charm, Song etc - these can all help you in crucial moments.
Try different party setups.
Remember that even if all units are of one elemnet, the spells they may use or fae summons can be different. Always take a mixed team and keep the most vulnerable in the back - and if possible, set them up to be support, like Barrier regen and HP regen enchants, or Healing auras etc.
Divide the enemies, they all have programmed AI to wait certain places until X happens, but you can lure some out if you progress slowly step by step. Make the enemies more managable.
Be aware of area control moves. Tom's EX attack is one, can throw things into water and lava for 1 hit kills. Some fae summons have knockback which achieves the same (Gremlin Witch and Goliath for two examples).
Make use of the various scroll effects, gem spells, and character weapons.
things like matilda's mana totem- buffed up with shields to take multiple hits and give global buff before it gets wiped out. with some luck you'll have your team deep in the enemy group, pulling out ultras and health/shield/attack buffed with taking almost no damage before you shred a boss.
or using tom with taunt scroll and protection weapon to tank hits for the team while you have ranged pick enemies off, and summons to buff shields.
