On the other hand, I agree with you. Currently in my NG+ and some quests are just mindnumbing button mashing until I get to play anencounter.
In most cases, you can retry... but the quest in question is the one where you're thrown into a dungeon and have to break out by yourself, with the rest of your team showing up at the exit to help you when you get near. Because of this, you can't actually edit the gear of your team-mates at the start... and it's a 'no escape' level, so if one of those team-mates happen to be equipped with a weapon that makes him extremely weak against the large group of Water-elemental enemies waiting at the exit, he can VERY EASILY get killed before you have any chance to reach him, netting you a Game Over.
But, yes, it's definitely going to be a bigger problem in NG+ than just in terms of having to replay missions. Kind of drains all desire to ever play it in NG+, considering how tedious and frustrating having to sit through a familiar story-scene even ONCE is...
