Some said that you could also put Pichon on boss with -def scroll and go fire I guess to speed things up.
Remember that you get damage reduce if you have mana barrier up unless they counter your element!
For future reference my party was arcane Peony, Erisolde and Claudia + vampx2 (mimic doll) and went with acid rain/sun shower/ fire damage spell.
Use the punch chicken with fire and -def, and just get him next to the boss. You can use the protector to walk the rest of your part up there and maybe just teleport punch chicken straight there. Protector will prevent the boss pulling anyone.
Have at least another melee combo character next to the boss and then have every else dog pile it with attacks. This will mean that a) You're always doing damage, building Ultra and reducing his defence way down and b) ensuring he always does his Ultra to spawn more units which you can take out with when you have the chance to exploit the -def on the boss.
I'm sure there are more tactics, but this was easily the safest I felt.
I had the same idea with Fire Chico as he did great damage and could heal himself, but the boss' broken ability to deal aura damage 4 squares around him could insta-kill chico every turn. How do you keep your melee unit next to the boss alive??
So if you find a unit is dying too easily, here are some solutions :
- if it has no mana barrier, give it one. The mana barrier scroll for a leader, or a "mana barrier for all units of X and Y element" scroll on one of your leader. Then you can also boost mana barriers by getting Fruits in the Camping mini-game.
- another way to give mana barrier is to bring an Earth unit, they all have the same assist skill that grants a small amount of mana-barrier, and the 50% damage reduction applies as long as the unit has a mana barrier left when it takes the damage.
For exemple, your unit has 200 HP and 20 Mb, and takes 200 damage. It'll in fact only take 100 damage, and thus will loose 20 Mb and 80 Health. Give it another 20 Mb, and if the exact same attack of 200 damage hits it again, it will still survive (while it only had 120 Health remaining)
In your specific case, if Chico was down each turn due to the Boss aoe damage, it means he took too much damage in general, and you should consider bringing a tool to buff his survivability. It can be the scroll you equip on him, like the Mana Barrier one I suggested, but it also can be a Summon to "babysit", like an Earth or Water one, and it can even be a Spell (like Fairy Kill). If your strategy don't work, you need to adapt.
Something important to note about Fire Chico is that...it's not really Fire Chico. His second weapon does not turn him into a Fire unit, it only gives his attack the Fire element. Meaning he's still a Physical unit, so he's not resilient against Earth damage, he doesn't benefit from some devices, he will not benefit from elemental scrolls like "give +X Attack to all Fire units", etc, etc. He's not a Fire unit, he only attacks with Fire, and this changes a lot of things. It can be done, I've beaten Each-Mot with Chico, but you need to adapt.
In Fae Tactics, the fights can be a tad snowbally : you start loosing a unit, so you have one less action per turn, or one of your leader keeps getting downed, and you suddenly have to spend one of your other units action each turn to revive...If that's the case, it's better to retry unless you're on the verge of winning, and use the opportunity to tweak something, maybe a better spell selection, bring a healer or buffing unit, something to give you an edge for this specific fight.
First time i got my ess beaten to hard.
Second time i went with acin rain and pichon with defense break and fire gloves. But i had to rush with EVERYONE unto the boss. Pichon + Peony (ice) + fairy cavalry(it floats on the empty square of the boss right side) and spam everything on him. Within 3~5 turns it was possible but the sniper girl went down a few times because shes too squishy and the boss being beaten spams his ult every turn so its very easy to get overrun.
By far it has been the most difficult fight so far. But i managed to win on the second try. Dunno what day it was but certainly wasn't earth day.
In this method, the totems obviously will have to die first, then position your summon units at the middle to block the only single entry path from the closest left and right rooms from start point. Doing so, only one Barghest can attack at any given time from those rooms. It doesn't matter if you kill them or not, just let them pile up while killing any additional summons from the far end left room, and on the right if any legion mobs spawn there, let the three main characters tackle them.
Blink and leap is good to have here, not only to get to the boss asap after totems are down, and to quickly bypass the cracks on the floor thus avoiding getting one shotted by Each-Mot's draw-in skill. (Unsure if ironwall from protection wait skill works to prevent draw-in but I assume that it does)
Fire Claudia is a godsent here with innate blink, and having her maxed out Special stat, granting her auto revive. Not only that, her aoe healing revives anyone near her without wasting a turn, you could pretty much go on forever..

- equip -10 def scroll
- use ultras (headshot) on boss only
Rest of the party (if boss def > 60):
- destroy totems as fast as possible (teleport spell helps)
- protect erisolde
Rest of the party (if boss def <= 60):
- all attack boss only
- ignore everything else
Opponents who have 100-200 attack, 50-100 defense, and I barely have stats of 50 with monsters trained to level 45.
Some skirmishes can only be won with ult attacks, because no matter what creatures we choose I don't like to attack for 10 when the opponent has 200 hp and 300 mb.
