Great game! Being a marmot is lots of fun!

A pretty damn good game. My play time is pretty high due to doing a lot of side content and leaving the game running for some of the optional management things to progress. I expect without doing those I could've easily finished it 20 or 30 hours faster.

The translation isn't perfect but you'll understand the main story and the characters' motives well enough to know what's going on and I never had trouble with any items or menus. The story starts out simple but develops into something much bigger and quite interesting. I haven't played any other wuxia games so I'm not sure how unique it might be but I definitely found it enjoyable.

None of the characters are going to win any popularity polls but they're all pretty consistently written and never stupid just for the sake of the plot. Surprisingly there's not any forced awkward romance the way you'd kind of assume with a male MC and the 2 party members you have the longest being pretty women.

There's a good amount of side content: fishing, item collection and creation, some basic management stuff if you want extra resources or items. There's also a card game that's entirely optional past the first match. The tutorial is basically worthless but it's pretty easy to pick up and I honestly won lots of matches just by putting the more intricate looking cards together or the ones with the most pairs listed on them.

The areas are by and large very pretty and some of them are very creatively done. There's a few areas that seem to drag on (usually the caves) but they're more the exception than the rule. Combat is fast-paced with a good amount of depth you can add to it (but not difficult enough for the most part that you need to use those systems if you dislike them).

Biggest flaws: There's the occasional platforming section which really doesn't work well with the game's movement BUT the respawns are forgiving so it's not so bad. Environmental movement is pretty outdated--you can't jump up onto higher areas unless the game specifically allows it and you might get caught on tiny edges of slopes or stairs a la PS2 era games. The biggest annoyance in the actual game is the lack of a proper journal system that helps you keep side quests and items that you're collecting for them straight but there isn't much of any import locked behind the side quests so if you find it frustrating you can just ignore them. The biggest annoyance not in the actual game is the online requirement, especially considering that the only multiplayer aspect to the game is an optional board game you can play only found in a mostly optional area of the game.


TL;DR: G3 is definitely worth playing if you're not easily annoyed by some minor but persistent flaws and a somewhat rough but understandable translation. It also requires you to be online while playing for some stupid reason and while I never had any issues with data loss due to the servers myself YMMV.
