A Question about LS1 Sharpness
hey scaler community.

I just wanna ask, what makes LS1 sharper? a while ago, setting 1 was the sharpest setting, but have they changed it? I dont see the difference between 1 and 4 in gta 5.

can anyone help. and yes, Im serious. thanks in advance!

Sharpness is a ratio tbh.. To get the most out of sharpness requires high resolution.. At 720p-1080p you really can't use much sharpness. At 2k you can start using a moderate amount and at 4k you can use a high amount without too many visuals signs.. at 6-8k.. there literally isn't enough sharpening to be had unless you combine shaders LOL.. anyways when it's just a slider like in Lossless Scaling, it's almost always a factor between 1-100%. in LS1, 1 = 25% sharpness pretty much.

In NIS 1 = 10%. Also different sharpness algorithms yield different results/use different methods.. In the case of NIS.. you'll find anything over 0-10% is just looks bad regardless of resolution, where 0-10% looks really good. I don't know why NIS uses such an overdone sharpness method but here we are. FSR1 has a pretty good sharpness method like LS1 but imo looks far worse in visual quality unless it's literally Ultra Ultra Quality(1.1).

So yeah LS1's sharpness is working.. you just might not notice because you're at a high resolution/etc and maybe because LS1's sharpening is a bit better than most methods and doesn't over do it. If you're looking for more sharpness/better methods. You can use Nvidia overlay shaders or ReShade to add more to your game. In fact.. I would recommend ReShade the most for sharpening after you find a good base value with LS.
