Lossless Scaling

FSR4 on RDNA3
https://youtu.be/X51DEwAhMqU

FSR4 is a hybrid transformer model, which is why it looks good, but RDNA 3 can only do CNN. Apparently you can remove the hybrid path, and run it as straight CNN.

AMD can do this, and has hinted at it, but I guarantee they won't do it anytime soon for segmentation purposes.

Every time AMD has provided major updates to older products, the community forced them to do it. FSR1 didn't come out until after magpie. The x370 BIOS updates didn't come out until BIOS hackers proved everything AMD said was a lie, and enabled x470 to x370 cross flashing.

Therefore I don't believe for one second AMD will release FSR 4 Lite, unless FSR modders port it themselves first. There's already mods to patch older games with newer FSR versions, these people just need to port the hybrid model to straight CNN to work.

Once the cat's out of the bag, AMD won't have any segmentation excuse, and should port it officially faster than they would have otherwise.

There's no excuse for leaving RDNA 3 AI unused besides artificial segmentation. AMD is crippling the previous generation to sell the next, which is particularly disgusting with such terrible supply issues. You can't buy the new card even if you wanted to, and there's likely still unsold inventory of the previous gen. Reprehensible behavior, which just feeds the meme of never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Which BTW everyone else did too. mCable is the prefect example of this. How many years to make a 4k version, and it's still a Nintendo switch product. First person to capitalize will have a monopoly. Upscaling is an untapped market, with barely any serious competitors.

It's even more insulting when so much is open source. Any random Joe with funding could slap together a Raspberry Pi with upscaling software and make money. Which is basically what some products already are, and charge $1000.

Lossless scaling is the sole innovator in this market. Maybe they could beat AMD to releasing FSR 4. IDK ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That's a guaranteed sale from every RDNA 3 user.

Is there even a single game with FSR4 support already?
If anything I'd suspect AMD would do it for the consoles if they could.

RDNA3 didn't even support FP8/INT4, only INT8 - so if you'd remove the transformer model part on FP8, wouldn't you just end up with something like the existing FSR again anyway?

Keep in mind consoles are RDNA2 (or RDNA2.x) so they don't even support INT8...

And the steam hardware survey shows RDNA3 is about 0.5% of the userbase.
0.34% + 0.16% for the 7900 or 7700 XTX

Not sure how that'd be worth it unless these very, very few RDNA3 users actively donate to a cause for putting in the efforts.

Imho: if it cannot be done on RDNA2 and RDNA as well, it's not worth going after.
But sure, it would be nice if you could pull it off.
