Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Serious Rare PC Crash When ALT+TAB
There is a seriously, seriously bad windows crash when ALT+TAB that is extremely rare but has happened to me three times now.

I have tested this with games ranging from very-low performance to very high, so its not that the PC is getting overwhelmed.

The bug is as follows: I alt+tab to switch to a different window. What happens is the windows alt+tab UI that pops up suddenly freezes, all monitors turn black. Then, disconnect and reconnect sounds (I assume graphics driver, GPU) and all windows turn to windows 7 (Top bar UI, minus and X UI) and constant, constant black screen flashes. Game closes, lossless closes, constant black flashes and windows explorer and window manager freaks out and flashes constantly restarting. The issue takes so long to go away it usually takes 5-10 minutes or a whole PC restart.

There is a small chance that it will happen when alt-tabbing, even on only 2x. I have alt tabbed a LOT and the problem does not persist. This is a really bad bug though and it is rare but it does happen. Again it only happens when alt tabbing quickly like just to switch to something else and if you hit that small chance it just breaks windows really, really bad. It's lossless scaling breaking in that moment and freaking out for several minutes. Just wanted to share this.

Sounds like a possible GPU driver issue, try a different version, remove the old one with DDU first. Also check if there are any WIndows updates and install them.

It has been a thing the last 3-4 NVIDIA drivers. It is not a gpu driver issue it is the app

I've been having this exact same issue when alt tabbing the past week or so, could it be this is due to a new version of lossless? I haven't had this problem before.

I'm not even using frame gen, just using lossless scaling to scale a small window to fit my monitor.

Update for anyone who finds this through google: Going into your properties of lossless, selecting beta and then downgrading to 2.12 legacy fixes this.

This has nothing to do with having too new or too old drivers(trust me I tried), seems like the dev broke something in newer versions for some people.

How has it been for you so far? I've been experiencing this for about a week now. I initially thought it was the new NVIDIA driver but the problem still persists even after a DDU reinstall and driver rollbacks.

I got that as well. I turned on "run as admin" in the settings and that seems to help with the alt+tab crashes. I havent had a crash a week or two.
