Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

What Was This Last Update?
I hate it when games and applications release updates silently without releasing any patch notes/changes log.

All I know is that there is now a resolution scale feature for the framegen, which is pretty awesome, it downscales the input frames that go into the frame generator, thus increasing performance.

Thank you. Much appreciated ♥

It also adds new upscaling type - SGSR. It seems to perform a bit better than LS1 and I think it looks slightly better in some cases.

Damn, the list of scaling types is getting longer and longer xD

Yes, it's indeed faster than LS1 and looks pretty good, so far I prefer it to LS1.

I tested it only in No Man's Sky, but I will also see how it looks like in Minecraft, Planet Crafter and Outer Wilds. These games have slightly different art styles (besides Minecraft which is significantly different), so I think after testing those I will be able to tell which upscaler is better for me in more cases.

Edit: After testing these games I feel like LS1 preserves more details and looks better in general, especially at very low resolution scales like 2.5x upscaling (on 4K), so I will probably still use LS1, but if you're in a situation, where every single FPS is important, then SGSR performs a bit better.

I say in a youtube video, that SGSR is an upscaler for mobile devices. do you know, if its true? I cant decide what to use: LS1 or SGSR?

Well, you know that the "S" stands for "Snapdragon", so yes, it was originally designed to run on mobile devices. For that it had to be lightweight and efficient, it does the scaling and sharpening in only one pass.

I cant decide what to use: LS1 or SGSR?

Just compare them and take the one that you prefer.

thanks a lot. I think, Ill prefer LS1, as it looks a bit better. I dont say, SGSR is crap. SGSR is needed, where every additional frame counts, with a slight loss in image sharpness. thats my opinion, based on my perception.

It's more than "where every additional frame counts", you should really try a combination of SGSR and 80% render resolution once to see how you like it. That combination lowers the GPU usage by a massive 10 percentage points on my 3080ti, which I then can either "reinvest" into higher graphics settings or a 15-20% higher base framerate. Together with the x3 framegen that's quite a lot of additional frames. And all that without any relevant loss in image quality.

does it diminish vram usage or "just" gpu processing power?

Just GPU.
