Lossless Scaling

4K resolution
Heyo.
So is there a point in using this if the game I am running is at 4K ? I tried LS1 and it actually decreases fps.

LS1 is an image upscaler, it would improve your framerate if you run the game at 1440p in Windowed or Borderless mode and use LS1 to bring it back to 4K desktop resolution. Or use frame generation to improve the framerate. What's your GPU and monitor refreshrate?

It's a scaler. Which it means you run the game at a lower resolution and use the app to scale it back up. If your game is already in 4K you're not doing any scaling.

You can use both LS! and FSR at native resolution, iv'e done so in the past to alleviate TAA-blur.

Forget the scaling, only use the frame generation.

Oh so it does nothing at 4K,I used only Framegen 2.3 and it actually made one game stutter ,despite the locked 60fps.If I lower the resolution to 1080p and use only LS1 ,the game is blurry, doesn't seem to do anything, the scaling option is set at 1 wich I am guessing is native.
The game is Tales of Arise btw,and I have a 120hz monitor, but I usually keep the refresh rate at 60 in most games.

Are you lowering the rendering resolution to 1080p, or reducing the window size to 1080p?

It does, it has a sharpening effect. And i recall someone stating that LS1, when used at native resolution, internally scales your games frames up and then down again, resulting in a supersampled image.

But if you can't see a difference, turn scaling off.

Yhea idk,it's just blurry,it doesn't upscale it,lowered the res to 1080p in-game (windowed ofc) , then turned on LS ,set the scale to 1,1.3 etc ,tried the different ones FSR etc ,still nothing. But from what I understand you should be good just using the Frame Gen feature even on 4K .

Will work yes, but interpolating a 4k input costs quite a bit more performance then say 1440p. Report back if 4k is too heavy.

Well I capped the framerate this time, saw that you need to do it,capped it to 40 for example, turned on only FrameGen with x3 boost ,it seems to boost the fps,but heavy stutter and stuff like ghosting on characters.Guess it's just buggy for now, tried with Tales of Arise and FF7 Remake only.

40 is a bit of a low base-framerate, 2x60 should artifact less. Also use a program that can show you your GPU's usage, else you're stabbing in the dark.

You can try setting your game to windowed and LS to "Custom"-scaling mode, with "Resize before scaling" enabled. Increasing your scaling factor should increase performance. Set scaling type to LS1.

Yhea the fps is good like this also, but the character ghosting is still there and really noticeable,it's probably just buggy with some titles for now.
It's ok,i will just wait for a future update. Thanks for the help

You don't do X4 upscaling and expect a crisp image result.

They really should make a dummy proof guide because we keep seeing the same questions being asked again and again.

First you can use frame gen or upscaling either seperatly or running together.
Second for best upscaling results in 3D games either use LS1 or FSR with a sharpness of 1-3 and an X2 resolution upscale.

This means upscaling from 1080P to 1440P, 1440P to 4K, 4K to 8K and so on.

For the frame generation part 9/10 a simple X2 (60->120fps ex.) will give you the best results and least artifacts. X3 and X4 is mostly used if you already have a high FPS (like +100) and have a high refresh rate monitor.

If you have a low baseline FPS combined with frame drops you will have a bad experience in general with framegen.

Yeah it is basically super cheap supersampling.. I love it. Use it all the time if I don't need performance headroom because it looks gorg.

Yup. If you can get the sharpness just right, it does a great job at clearing up TAA-blur.
