Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Stutters, frame drops, then freezes (Cyberpunk 2077)
Hi, I just bought this software, and I'd really like to try to get it working, I must be doing something wrong.

In Cyberpunk 2077, I can run the benchmark smoothly at 30fps, but if I enable Lossless Scaling the frames drop, then the whole game freezes after a couple of seconds. Disabling Lossless Scaling via the hotkey makes the game run again at 30fps.

Specs:
Ryzen 7 5800X
32GB RAM
RTX 3070 with 551.86 driver
Win 11 23H2
4K HDR 60hz TV and 1080P 60hz monitor

Cyberpunk 2077:
Borderless windowed mode
Vsync off
Frames capped to 30
4K resolution or 1440P, both modes provide a locked 30fps

Lossless Scaling 2.10.1:
Scaling mode Auto
Scaling Type off
Frame Generation LSFG 2.2
Mode X2
HDR Support On
Capture API DXGI
Multi-display mode On

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Also all overlays are disabled (Steam, Nvidia, Discord)

Could be a VRAM or GPU-limit. Do you use Raytracing? That takes a lot of VRAM, and Lossless scaling needs VRAM and GPU power for frame generation. Check your GPU load and VRAM usage during framegen.

Limited by VRAM for sure. It is not able to do 4k and will have issues with 1440 in Cyberpunk.

Using the FSR 3 Frame generation mod might actually perform better for you in this case. It is on the Nexus mod page for free.

RTX 3070 for 1440p in cp2077 is not possible in my experience. Even it runs fine in base map, it becomes ♥♥♥♥♥ in Dog Town

try turning mulit display off it can be annoying but it works better for me

So I upgraded to a 4k monitor thinking that this app will help me reach good FPS while still running at 4k. Problem is that Lossless Scaling also uses some GPU power, including Vram. If the GPU is maxed out, Lossless Scaling will stutter and or freeze. It also turns out that having HDR on in Lossless Scaling causes it to freeze if your GPU is already struggling, so try to turn it off to see if that fixes it, the colors will look horrible but it will help you see what the problem is here.
