Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Base framerate is the same as the monitor, not the game... (Frame Gen) help
Using an example: while playing Ninja gaiden 3 (a game caped by default at 60 fps), when i activate lossless scaling it just says on the top left 240/240 while using the x4 preset (making lossless to not work propetly). its supposed to be 60/240 but no matter what i do i can't cap my base framerate. it literally happens with all games. any suggestions?

im on amd ryzen 7 7800x3d and rx 7900xtx
240hz monitor

This has happened to me a few times. Seems to be a rare bug, once it starts happening, it only goes away when I restart the PC. I have no idea what cause it.
I assume you tried restarting and is still happening?

Im seeing alot of people recently talking about having this issue and nobody knows a fix. sometimes it works other times it doesnt i need to fight it for like a hour to get it to work sadly.

probably an overlay issue or driver related. remove your gpu driver with DDU and reinstall it if you are sure there isnt an overlay causing it. also make sure there isnt some extra overlay other than steam's

Are you using a multi monitor setup? I had this issue and it was because of multiple monitors. I used a HDMI/DP switch to turn off the second and third monitors while I game because the multi-monitor toggle option in the app rarely ever works for me and gives me this issue when toggled or not at least 50% of the time. It sucks.. especially if you're a streamer.. for me I have 4 office computers so I just multi-task that way instead of the multiple screens per PC when streaming. You can use OBS over your network or via computer to computer 10gb/s usb cable(good ones can be pricey).

kripcision mentioned the overlays, have you tried disabling them (Steam/AMD/Nvidia)? And if you use the Discord app, try closing it, or disable hardware acceleration in the user settings.

Well, now I know that drivers are not it since I've tried it with 3 different driver versions and nothing. And regarding the overlays... The only one I have is steam and AMD adrenaline. And I've also deactivated both with no success. This is just weird

Funny enough, I've only been able to make it work in Ninja gaiden sigma 1 and 2. But having it in fullscreen for some reason... In windowed mode the problem comes back :steamfacepalm:

Some engines will set your display to 60 hz when you enter fullscreen mode. Do you notice your screen turning black for a second or anything when swapping between fullscreen and windowed?

Good question, I haven't noticed..
Soo I'll check it out when I'm home

Guys i found a fix:

you have to limit the hz on that specific app if you wanna limit the base framerate

easiest way is on steam:

just go to the game, go to properties and in launch options type: -Hz=XX (Change XX to whatever number you want to limit)

launch the game on borderless and u done.

The second method is to create a shortcut of the game and at the end of "Target Box" add -Hz=XX.
Example: "G:\Games\Launchers\Steam\steamapps\common\[NINJA GAIDEN Master Collection] NINJA GAIDEN 3 Razor's Edge\NINJA GAIDEN 3 Razor's Edge.exe" - Hz=60

hope this works for anyone with that issue <3

Thank you for reporting back!

Does NINJA GAIDEN 3 Razor's Edge not respond to RTSS or have you just been able to get away with not using RTSS?

It happens to me when i use a custom resolution that i made on Nvidia Control panel. never happened to me in native resolution of the monitor. Also, even when this "bug" happens, use vsync in Lossless scaling solves the frametime problem, but adds enormous input lag.
I'm on RTX4060, I5 12400F, 60hz Monitor

I just use the fix I spoke above, RTSS didn't help me in any game I tried it for some reason
