Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Optimal settings for a 30 series GPU for Skyrim SE (And trying to reduce artifacts+lag)
Hello, so far enjoying the scaler a lot, but I am noticing a lot of artifacts and an almost motion blur like effect when looking around quickly. My characters head pretty much disappears when looking around quickly in third person

I am hoping someone with experience with this and Skyrim SE knows the optimal settings for this and a 30 series gpu (mine game is heavily modded--based on the ElderGleam mod list+Cabbage's ENB Silent Horzion 2 Version if it matters. In short I have all the stability mods pushing the limits of SSE graphically)

I play on an unbottlenecked 3090-ftw3, but with a dramatic undervolt so its more like a 3080-3080ti with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of vram, the card usually stays around 1700mhz core clock and the memory stays around just under 10k (I really haven't found a game that I need to run the game a full speed yet so I like to keep the card quiet and cool)

For reference, I cap my fps to 30 in RivaTuner and the game seems like its pretty much locked at 120hz (or 120 fake fps or however this works) so I think I have some room to play around with it a bit but I don't know what I should start off experimenting with

My current settings are from this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_tRn1RUUco

Any tips would be appreciated on how to get this a little less blurry, or maybe lower the innate input lag (menus still feel terrible sadly)

-Thank you

*Edit 1* GPU ultil is around 70% if it matters

*Edit 2* After extensive testing I have concluded the optimal settings for Skyrim Special Edition to be as follows

Scaling Mode: Auto--Fullscreen

Scaling Type: Off (should be better options in your enb and there are a lot of artifacts)

Frame Gen: LSFG 2.1 Mode X3--Allow Screen tearing: On--Capture API: DXGI
Everything else off, or auto

Try a 40fps framecap wih x3 framgen, set your monitor to 120hz if you can for sync reasons.

That does seem to be the sweet spot, I seem to have reduced the blur a bit but I am not sure exactly I changed, can any settings help with the blur/artifacts around the edges of the screen during movement?

*edit 1* can only cap at 165-144-60 sadly.

*edit 2* clarity

A higher base framerate and x2 framegen helps a bit. How many fps do you get in Skyrim without framegen?

I will play around with that.

Without losses scaling my fps is about 60ish during a clear, clam day in Riverwood. It can dip under that if I starting shooting off spells that can cast a lot of light and dynamic shadows like flames on chickens, lol. But not for for long, once combat starts the fps stabilizes quite quickly.

During clear weather Riverwood is a decent benchmark location because it has some npcs milling about, running water, foliage, trees and shadows. It's not the most demanding scene in the game but still up there, it will certainly allocate some vram (about 10gb--modlist with all the trees and foliage, parallax textures)

More then double that in dungeons, triple that in smaller instances like homes

I haven't really optimized the mod list that much yet I could probably disable some the ai enhanced texture packs that don't really increase the visuals 'that' much, but I definitely am looking to stabilize the frame-time a bit because it can be a bit jarring to go from an exterior 60 fps to an interior at 165 fps in 2 seconds.

I think there might be a dlss mod floating around somewhere too but I have my doubts about that.

What about Nvida control panel settings, do they matter?

Yes, that would surely help. Also maybe don't underclock your 3090 that much ;) I guess it should be easy to get a stable 48fps cap with framegen x3 to 144fps.

but with a dramatic undervolt
If you undervolt your (Ampere) GPU to a too low voltage point, below somewhere around 825-875mv, it may result in it running in a lower P-state. This lower P-state has lower VRAM speeds, VRAM speeds are important when playing heavily modded open world games. Keep 737mv reserved for 2d stuff.

That's really so low for a 3090.
Ty for the replies all

Thanks for your replies, I was making an error when under-volting before, my power target was based on the incorrect max temp (75c) and power target was hilariously low (under 100)

I decided to stop being a ♥♥♥♥♥ and cranked the voltage to 107% and here are the results

I got it *stable* at 750>1800, as a result the core stays pinned between 1845-1860 (memory stays at 9752 and does not change at all) but its pretty much running at max temp of 91c (it basically stays at 90c) It sounds like a jet engine, lol. As EVGA suggested before it prob needs new thermal paste, I seen some people get way better temps with new pads on YT. Sadly the max fps hasn't really changed but it feels snapper.

Do these number sound batter? Should I be worried letting it sit at 89-90c for hours?

Any modern GPU, without being tempered with, will throttle way before it will allow itself to be killed.

I can also higly recommend Thermal Trizzly Kryosheet* in place of a new pasting, which would probably squeeze out again. The PTM stuff seems to work great for a lot of people as well, but i have no personal experience with it.

*Figure out your die-size before ordering, the 3090 will probably have a chunky die.

And from the sound of it, there's something wrong with your thermal interface. It's highly unlikely that EVGA would have designed that cooling solution to not be able to cool the power output of 750mv.

I would personally target 80-85c until i could get that thermal interface fixed.
