Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

What exactly does auto in scaling mode do?
I mean, what it precisely does when I am playing in the following resolutions?

1080p
1440p
2160p

it automatically sets the scale amount to full screen resolution from whatever the window size is. for example if playing with a 1080p window but have a 1440p screen, it will scale to 1440p. keep in mind you need to be using windowed mode in the game, and not borderless windowed/fullscreen.

Thanks. That explains a lot.

For me who uses FG with scaling mod set to auto, it does no scaling since I play in 1080p on a 1080p monitor. Am I correct or is there still some graphics improvement at all?

I've heard from 2 separate users now that LS1 supersamples 2x at native resolution, and the results look it. AMD FSR at native res also makes for a nice sharpening filter to combat TAA blur. Try them out and see which you prefer.

well LS1 upscales then downscales so it does have some 'improvement' to a degree, but to me it just looks a bit sharper. i turn the scaling type to OFF so it doesnt take more resources to 'scale' when i just want frame gen.

if you got the scaling type to OFF then the auto setting won't have any graphical changes.

Thanks guys, it's that subtle difference (sometimes yes sometimes no) that makes me think scaling is working so that I kept it auto for the same resolution like an idiot. Until I find out it seems completely different between using it in fullscreen and windowed modes.

An easy way to spot if scaling is doing anything is by setting scaling to either Nvidia image scaling or Bicubic CAS and cranking sharpness. Look at edges or grainy textures, the difference should be evident.

Yes, so sometimes I see only sharpening, instead of noticeable scaling. Now I know why.
