Although it sort of works, it isn't a real fix because the HDR color is incorrect and this just compensates for it. It feels like HDR is being applied twice.
From other posts on the Discord, it sounds like RTX HDR itself would have to be updated for it to work properly due to the way the images are processed.
Fortunately games with native HDR do work, although sometimes I prefer RTX HDR even over in-game HDR.
The only solution we can hope for is when Nvidia makes the change to make there RTX shaders driver side instead of applied only within their stupid overlay. This is apparently in the works as they plan to do this when they fully abolish NVCP and the current usage of the overlay. I stopped using RTX HDR as a result. They need to need to hurry up and give full Nvidia APP implementation like yesterday.
But it will take time i'm afraid but when they do the plan is to not have NVCP anymore(Nvidia APP will take over all functions and all the current NVCP will be inside the Nvidia APP).. Also all shader settings will be non overlay based(people don't realise that all the crap the Nvidia effects tab does is applied through an overlay. If that overlay crashes they go bye bye until you reboot).. it's why in most cases they removed RTXGI.. it caused SOOO many crashes because it was freaking overlay based.)
They need to move to a driver side method which is planned. In the future the plan is to have the overlay only control streaming matters, performance settings, NVBOOST etc.
Right now I use RTX HDR for games that don't have built-in HDR and I don't need LS FG for. Personally I find RTX HDR to be better than Windows Auto HDR quality wise and because it works with almost anything.
yeah windows hdr is meh but I will say this about windows HDR.. it comes with virtually 0 performance cost. RTX HDR though INSANELY GOOD.. it comes with quite a hit depending on the content.. but I mean it's insanely good so it makes sense. I've configured RTX HDR in old games to look better than damned Dolby Vision.. the tech is seriously impressive. But yeah it needs to be non overlay based.
An alternate solution in my opinion is setting up Auto HDR and configuring it a bit brighter in the settings and then using the newer HDR shaders in ReShade(there's a couple new HDR simulation shaders that just came out recently that are pretty damned impressive imo) .. so in the meantime I would say look into them.
Marty McFly released a new colour space shader that you can use with the new HDR shaders to great effect and it looks amazing. It's extra work but if you really want decent HDR with Lossless Scaling.. these shaders will work well. ALSO it should be said that a A LOT of games aren't even working with RTX HDR right now.. so there's that..
The ReShade HDR shaders work on ANY game without exceptions. So yeah. Even if they make the RTX HDR changes to non overlay I know until they fix the compatibility .. I'll still be using ReShade HDR Shaders.
I'll see if I can get it working.
My favourite game doesn't have native HDR output, and I can't use windows auto HDR because the game runs Easy Anti Cheat which disables the auto HDR for some stupid reason.
arrrrhhh!!
I don't have HDR so I can't speak from experience, but Xavvy mentioned that he's quite happy with the Reshade HDR shader, maybe that would work for you as well?
I hope that what Xavvy said turns out to be a reality and that a driver side fix will enable this all to work together. It's so close yet frustratingly far away. The frame generation works brilliantly.
Sure, but you currently only have the option to either have zero HDR in that game or have non-proper HDR with Reshade. It's up to you to decide what looks better in that game.
Well, that's a whole different story. It's idiotic that they don't allow Reshade. What game is it?
