Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Triple Monitor Setup Guide
How to get Lossless Scaling to play nicely with triple screens without Nvidia Surround/AMD Eyefinity

Context and use-case

I run three 4k monitors, that's 11520x2160 full resolution. That's a lot of pixels to push and I got this app in the hopes of not needing to upgrade to a 4090 as I'd like to skip the 4xxx series generation. Follow these simple steps and you can get LS working with any multi-monitor setup with ease, without having to use Nvidia surround/AMD Eyefinity!

Software needed

Setup
Everyone's setup is different, but I will share what LS settings work for me (even at my extreme resolution)

Frame Generation Settings
I'm only going to specify the settings that are important, if not listed here, just leave at default values.

  • LSFG 2.0
  • Performance - ON (You might be able to get away with this off if you have a lower resolution than me)
  • Clip Cursor - OFF
  • Vertical Sync - OFF
  • HDR Support - DEFINITELY OFF (Disable HDR in Windows too, this is the only downside)
  • Multi-Display Mode - ON

Resize Raccoon Settings
This app is pretty straight forward to setup. But generally you'll want to:

  1. Enable 'Process Watcher' which will allow the app to auto-resize your game window.
  2. I like to have this app start with Windows so I never have to think about it after I configure it
  3. When Resize Raccoon is up and running, go ahead and fire up a game. When you're in game, ensure that your display option is set to either windowed or borderless window. THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR RR AS WELL AS LS!
  4. When the game's process is running, in RR click the '+' button in the bottom right
  5. Select your game's process from the dropdown
  6. Give it a name
  7. Enable the 'Auto Resize' option to let RR do it by itself when it detects the game
  8. Optionally you can tell RR to delay the window resize after it detects your game running.
  9. The preset dropdown let's you select from an array of predefined common resolutions. (in my case, I would select 'triple 4k'. If your desired resolution isn't in the list, you can define your dimensions manually below.
  10. Be sure to flip on the 'Remove Borders' switch.
  11. Hit save, and since you just made the profile, you'll probably need to click the '[ ]' looking button on your new game profile for it to resize your screen. Next time you launch the game though, RR will do it for you automatically XD.
  12. Once your game is fully expanded and filling all your monitors, simply hit the LS hotkey (Ctrl + Alt + S) and enjoy your experience!

P.S. Helldivers 2 is a great experience with triple monitors ;)

could i use this to make a window a different ratio. lets say i have a 21:9 screen, but i want to change the window to 32:9 screen by shrinking the vertical pixels, can i do that?

That should work just fine! You may need to do the math on the exact pixel counts, but if you enter those in manually you can play any resolution you desire! Although this is theory as I've not done it myself.

I just tested it out, it does work, although my assumption was correct, you'll need to mess around with the pixel X and Y position and the size you desire. But the good news is that when you get it dialed in, you'll not have to set it up again!

interesting i have been wanting something to do this, i just tried it before i posted my comment but it was giving an error when trying to use it with Returnal, i suspect either i was doing something wrong or the game has some protection against resizing of windows.

Curious what error you were getting? Was it from Returnal or Resize Raccoon?

I just tried Returnal and was able to create the 32x9 aspect ratio on my 16x9 screen, worked like a charm!
in my case only the middle screen gets the framegen effect while the left and right screens suffer from performance hit of framegen but don't get any extra frames...

Yes, this is true

Did you found any fix for that? This is how far I've made it, but can't seem to find a fix for this issue.

Unfortunately I haven't. I can question the author in the discord, see what their thoughts are on it?

Here's the discord post I made: https://discord.com/channels/1042475930217631784/1308886148290052096

Did you get reply.. have same problem.. only middle screen gets fps boost..
No, it's a limitation of windows, the only solution i can think of is trying to use nvidia surround or amd eyefinity since they create a simulated single screen, report back!

tried with surround but still only one monitor.. ♥♥♥♥.. lets hope some point they fix it :)
Thanks for reporting back! Damn that's a huge bummer for sure.

Yeah let's hope they fix it someday. Especially because this RTX5000 Generation turned out to be this expenssive & AMD is not very competitive this generation.
