Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Why does this exist?
Magpie 0.10 gives much more methods, settings and it's free. Why does anyone uses this instead. Is it better at something?

You should probably see when this program came out for better context. Google should do the trick.

Magpie has no installer.. just source code. That probably stops 95% of potential users right there.

It's have the exe file, not just code. You just unpack archive where you want and use – don't need to compile anything.

I'm not sure what search for. But I see now Magpie's first release on GitHub was in 2021 while Lossless Scaling released 2018. Althrought, I clearly remember I used magpie before 2021. But I didn't find any magpie releases in Google earlier than 2021. Perhaps my memory is deceiving me

Well, Lossless Scaling is way more user friendly, the dev lsitens to the community and adds requested features, and on the top of the previous points- it has machine learning spatial upscaler whis is better than AMD FSR for preserving visuals while still getting the same (with the standard LS1 model) performance or even higher (with LS1Performance model) performance. Due to that most probably his app os favorable by a lot of people.

Where? The only .exe file I see in the archive is "MPVHookTextureParser.exe".

Totally not user friendly at all. Hard to believe the FAQ doesn't include "can I use this program without compiling?".

I'm not sure we're talking about the same Magpie[github.com]

Thanks! I had been on that page but didn't notice the Assets section can be expanded to reveal download links.

After testing Magpie I have to admit its multi-monitor support is superior to Lossless Scaling. The mouse cursor doesn't jump around or get lost when you click between screens. Makes functional multitasking possible again.

However Magpie has worse performance, no LS1, and no windowed mode. For now I will be using Magpie but monitoring LS for updates.

Not even on the same ballpark of performance and quality. Like damn, this is the cheapest way to 'upgrade' your GPU, not even close.

I agree, the performance difference between Lossless Scaling and Magpie is stark. LS is dramatically more efficient. LS1 also looks much better than FSR 1.0.

Not everybody uses this application to improve FPS in 3D gaming though. Lossless Scaling is currently the only application that can scale unresizable application/game windows while keeping them windowed. However any multitasking is annoying because the mouse jumps around when clicking between windows/screens. This issue is 100% solved in Magpie.

So, I'm still hoping for updates. Until then I run a Windows tablet next to my desktop and alternate between two keyboards and two mice. Not as bad as it sounds, but still not ideal.
I personally (and from other benchmarks i've seen) show that Lossless Scaling is better optimised. I also prefer the more compact UI and look of LS and it also has NIS, and even the developers only upscaler LS1 which is superior to FSR1.

because it has custom AI based proprietary upscalar and frame generator that you can't get with any other alternative.

The thread is from March 2023, there was no frame generator back then ;)
