Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Nothing really works. What am I doing wrong?
Hello everyone. I bought lossless scaling a month ago. I see people using this in every wonderful possible way. Playing The Witcher 3 at 720p and resizing with FSR with good quality, improving Xcloud graphics, even sharpening web browser for better video playing.

On my side, games generally don't look any different from not applying FSR or NIS, not sure if video in browser are looking better and the same goes with Xcloud with the Xbox app on Windows (and plus, it stutters like going 15fps).

Anybody willing to check with me if anything is set correctly? :(

I use 1,5 as resizing factor (sometimes 1,3, mostly depending on the game's resolution), resizing before the scaling, using AMD FSR, support to VRR and HDR since sometimes I do use FreeSync Premium and, rarely, HDR. Preferred GPU set as Automatic or my dGPU (Nvidia; I do have an iGPU, an Intel one).

It shouldn't look better than your native resolution. Can you clarify what you are comparing?

what gpu your are using?? if the problem is with performance then use process lasso app and set priority of Lossless to high and also set your desired game priority to above normal, this help me sorting out performance issue for many games and i prefer to use NIS in lossless scaling app. Other thing will be quality issue, so you mentioned that you are using scaling of 1.3 and 1.5 scaling factor, i advise you to use use for very high quality image and some performance use in game windows to 1600x900 and scaling to 1.1. This will give you nice looking and some good performance and in my case NIS is giving much better performance on 1600x900 resolution and scaling on 1.1. Also play with the settings for less demanding games for better quality and some performance like set in game resolution to like 1776x100 or 1824x1024 and then use lossless scaling to 1.08 to 1.2, you will get performance and quality mix setting.

Hi guys, thanks for your time. What I'm doing is: my max monitor res/the game res = the result goes in Lossless Scaling. For ex.: 1080/720=1.5
Sometimes I try with 900p and so I try with 1.2

Let's start with the main thing. The game must be in windowed mode. You need to make sure that the game you are trying to scale supports resizing the window and changes the resolution accordingly. If this is not the case, do not use this option, set the resolution in the game settings.
The quality you get should be worse than the native resolution of 1080p, but better than if you played at 720p in full screen mode, thus using a bilinear scaling by graphics driver.
Personally, I do not recommend using a factor of 1.5, this is too much for such a low resolution.

Should I still do the proportion? Like, to use scale factor 1.3, should I up the game resolution from 720p to something higher?

I think you should just use auto. Only use manual scale factor if the game doesn't allow you to set resolution from game settings. These kind of games' resolution can be made bigger or smaller by dragging like a folder window. After setting a scale factor make sure that you checked the option "resize before scaling" so that LS can change the window proportions thus changing the resolution of the game. On the other hand, "auto" detects window resolution and scales accordingly. So if your game lets you change resolutions from settings menu, you probably cant drag and change resolution which makes "manual scale" to scale with wrong resolution, making the quality poorer. Also makes sure that "preferred gpu" is same with your gpu driver's option. Lastly, dont expect miracles. This app definitely improves quality but is definitely not good as native.

And Sharpness only adds sharpness without really impacting on performances, right?

I haven't experienced any performance issues related to sharpness. I always use max setting.
