Get a free tool called Magpie on Github that basically does the same thing
Not sure why the devs are charging money since these upscaling algorithm are free and opensource. Go get the free tool on Blinue/Magpie Github instead

It's got FSR, FSRCNNX, ACNet, Anime4k, CRT-Geom, Lanczos, Interger scale
NIS can already be enabled in Nvidia control panel

I see that most still favors LS and I respect that. I will have to disagree with those who think Magpie are too hard to use.

Magpie is already compiled and ready to be used on Windows. Most opensource software on Github have a release page. If you can install Steam, then you can double click on magpie with ease.

Probably because you have to compile Magpie yourself. A huge portion of computer users are utterly helpless and can't even follow basic instructions to extract zip files, copy/paste, etc. I had posted a short 2-step guide for setting up 'IntegerScaler', a competing software package. The guide ended up being super bloated and overwhelming for most because it had to cater to those helpless folk.

Whether $5 is worth it for you really depends on your use-case scenario. Are you just using this so you can get an extra 5 FPS or bit nicer graphics in a game that is already playable? Or is this program a revolutionary accessibility tool for you that allows you to (easily, unlike Magpie) use both your screens efficiently, display unsupported resolutions, or enlarge a small unreadable window?

For me it's this latter scenario, even if it's still just to run a silly game. For me the silly game is one I'm quite invested in; 'Lossless Scaling' ("LS") makes it way easier and more enjoyable to play, so for me it's easily worth way more than $5.

Before I had 'IntegerScaler' (which I've replaced with "LS") my accessibility solution and recommendation to others was to install Windows in a VM and run the game inside that, which took hours. And THAT was a paradigm-shifting solution that people searched for for years, lol. Magpie is easier than that, but still way out of reach for most.

Also keep in mind "LS" has an unlimited free demo and is non-profit with proceeds supporting the Ukraine war. It's only $5, has highly active development, a responsive author, and it installs and updates itself automatically through Steam. Just my 2c.

Lossless scaling performs better then magpie. Do a test yourself and see which is smoother and easier on resources.
I did. Magpie is good if all you play is visual novels but it's not even on the same ballpark of performance in games that aren't slideshows.

Best $5 I've ever spent in any form.
And even more- the developer had added lots of aditional options and tweaks like multi monitor support, vrr support and other things which are not available/not as good as the ones in Magpie.
Old magpie, new LS user here. Using magpie in some games, (notably, most in case games that use EAC) makes them stutter and mouse acting weird with all those sudden resolution changes, feels unresponsive a lotta times. It was "if it works good, if it's not, RS is still at it's early stage so I can wait" program to me. Also, for most computer users (like my friends) can't even find where to download from GitHub.

When I first tried this, I got amazed how much progress has been made till I last used Magpie. It works literally every game I've tried; R6 Extraction, R6 Siege, Far Cry 5, Dead by Daylight, Fallout NV, Hunt, Insurgency Sandstorm etc with no problem, at a key press. Those games wasn't performing well with Magpie as well.

My computer is good enough to handle those games at their max on 1080p, but with my multimonitor setup, making those games work at 900p with LS1 or FSR works like magic for multitasking. Everything feels so smooth, with no changes that my eye can see (apart from UI changes). So, with it's only price of 5$ and It's literally free to use with it's demo, this is way better alternative than magpie.
AMD FX9800 APU laptop user here. Lossless scaling is unquestionably faster and more responsive for gaming. The difference is night and day on hardware that has performance limitations. Haven't tested the latest magpie, but it wasn't the best for gaming.

As for downloading magpie, this is pebkac. The readme is chinese, but github is in english, google translate is a thing, downloads are ALWAYS under "RELEASES", there is a zip file there. Of course, some people don't know how to open zip files, which again, pebkac. Not my problem. Maybe install Linux Mint, or buy a mac if windows is too hard.

That said, magpie beat everyone except nvidia to real time upscaling. It was useful on mid range+ desktop PCs for general purpose upscaling, and fixing old games that crash above 1080p. Certain old games had hard api limits for resolution, and even though some had workaround hacks / "widescreen fixes", they didn't work 100%, and upscaling retro games was better than native resolution. Windows still has nasty problems changing resolutions lower than desktop for games as well, especially with task switching. Might as well upscale, solves the problem.

Upscaling is amazing for DOSBOX, Chasm for instance. You get a huge performance loss maxing out the native resolution with minimal image quality gain, while slightly lower resolution upscaled runs faster with better quality. The dosbox upscalers are too slow for FPS, and don't do a good job outside of 2D games. I haven't checked recently, but dosbox hasn't supported FSR.

You can then upscale movies better than most video players, which to this day do not support FSR OOTB. MPV doesn't count, as it's not OOTB. MadVR used to be a thing, but the performance loss is ridiculous, support is dead, and modern drivers are rather broken trying to still run it. MPVnet does it better anyway at the performance level, while MPC's native output is nasty and washed out. I dunno how to do the MPV special secret sauce FSR mode that requires command line wizardry, so I just use MPVnet with LS doing the scaling.

So here's the roundup:
Video players should support FSR.
Dosbox should support FSR.
Windows should support FSR.
AMD should support "RSR" on all cards.

But they don't. Literally everyone ignored upscaling even after AMD gave us FSR open source for free. Exception being linux, but who really knows how to use that arcane OS that also has ridiculous issues it's supporters never admit existing like how updates break things, or wayland.

As a side note, I want to call out mCable, who made an amazing hardware upscaler product, but never upgraded it past 1080p, did high FPS, or supported freesync. They just sat around doing nothing for years, when they could have sold a next gen product to AMD users before FSR was released. Those old console users will only buy so many, especially with the competition, and even emulation.

We're ultimately left with Lossless Scaling, which is the only all purpose PC upscaler that actually performs well for gaming. It's well worth the $5 or whatever it is. Don't want to spend it? Well, you got magpie for around half the performance, which is still usable for general purpose and brute forcing old games, while new games will have native FSR anyway. Up to you. It's either worth it, or it's not, and most LS users think it is.

I like to support people who do a good job.
Magpie is pretty good, but I haven't used it recently much. I used to use it for visual novels because it simply had better scalers for anime art, but with the addition of a4k-UL into Lossless Scaling, I don't really need to use Magpie anymore. On Magpie I'm stuck on an old version as well because any versions beyond 0.8.1 insta-crash on my setup.

So in short, if you ask me: I appreciate Magpie existing and it's handy. However Lossless Scaling is just a lot more polished and stable, and I can actually get support when this one bugs out or doesn't work in some fashion.
