Lossless Scaling

1.6.0 released
- Added another great upscaler - NIS (Nvidia Image Scaling)
- The sharpness setting is unified for both FSR and NIS in the range [0–1.0], where 1.0 is the maximum sharpness.

in a quick comparison shot in Snowrunner scaling from 720p to 1080p with 0.5 sharpness NIS appears much cleaner. FPS seems similar enough at a glance that idk which is better. Heres some screnshots, I also took a screenshot with Nearest scaling for a comparison.

You can use this[imgsli.com] for screenshot comparison.
IMO NIS has more jaggies than FSR and look oversharp even tho i have lowered the sharpness

Hot damn you're fast. From what I tested, NIS with 0.5 looks sharper with better detail retrievals than FSR. No issue with input lag or anything.

And now I don't need to update my driver, was really reluctant since Nvidia driver updates have been such a hit and miss for older cards. Yay.

Quick Comparison... FSR vs NIS... Shadow of Mordor... 1440P scaled to 4K (0.5 Sharpness ).
Very impressive!

To my eye, FSR and NIS are basically identical.
Also worth noting, I updated nvidia driver to the new version to test driver level implementation of NIS. Interestingly, I think NIS looks slightly better from LS app than it does from the driver. It could just be a difference of how sharpening is applied, idk. It's a very slight difference and I won't notice it outside of testing.
With that said,
Since NIS has been improved, and I can apply it through the driver, I won't be using LS app anymore. Even though LS app is much more convenient to use.
Why not?
Because LS app has "always on top" problem. It applies "Always on Top" to the game and puts it on top of other things, even if those other things are "Always on Top". So for example, if I'm playing an MMO that doesn't have a damage meter or addon support, I can't overlay an external damage meter.
Anyway it's a good app, and I will still recommend it to people who don't have an nvidia GPU.

NIS is kinda broken on my 4700U, 21.10.1 at least on this specific application (Vulkan Cemu)

https://imgsli.com/ODIzODA/ (also compared bilinear, FSR, FSRlite, and NIS here)

I am having the same issue using NIS with a AMD RX 6700XT when playing Fortnite (DX11 and DX12). No issues with FSR at all. There are artifacts all over the screen. Hope it gets fixed soon.

This artifact is apparently either Nvidia's fault in the shader or AMD's in the driver. Let's wait, maybe someone will release an update

Those of you who have Nvidia GPUs are better off using NIS from the driver. The most important thing is that you can have exclusive fullscreen for low latency and it doesnt break freesync/gsync, also it looks similar or better than FSR. Great job by the developer though.

We don't necessarily want exclusive fullscreen. LS is a lot more convenient to use if you want a fullscreen window.

May I ask what is the point of having NIS since it's already in the GPU drivers? Unless I'm getting confused?

It's only in nvidia drivers. People who don't have nvidia GPUs may want to use it.

Oh yeah like FSR, however honestly from what I've been using so far from the control panel, I much prefer FSR compared to NIS, NIS feels like it only sharpens and doesn't really upscale, idk I feel like FSR is better.
