You specify no detail. Hard to help

What resolution are you setting in the game?
You are setting windowed mode?
Have you followed any of the guides?

Guessing this is a desktop ?

Lossless Scaling doesn't speed up games -- it's running the game in a window that does that, though you lose quality, and are stuck with the game in a small window.

Lossless Scaling (LS) then tries to make things look fullsize again using lots of smarts, such as AMD's FSR, though it does have a small overhead, and never quite manages to undo the damage done when things were windowed, but it's usually good enough.

When measuring FPS, compare running the game natively at full resolution, vs windowed with LS running.

The higher the scale you set within LS, then the faster the game will run, but worse the quality will be. Getting that balance right is up to what matters most to you.

Good luck, and happy gaming!

I really love LS for YouTube and movie watching outside of gaming. :Neko:

I don't know about AMD control center but in Nvidia there is a setting called "Prefer high performance" which should be applied for LS app.

How do you use it for Youtube? On web browser?

Yeah there isn't anything like that in that AMD control panel, but setting a high performance plan in windows has the same effect essentially or disabling ULPS for AMD which you have to use something like MSI Afterburner.

OP I'd make sure that the AMD recording stuff is off, even its overlay, and try it, I can;t imagine it playing to well with a scaling software like this.

yes you can scale browser too. I use on videos too as it adds sharpness effect instanly
Hey,

Have a bit of mixed feelings. A little guidance would be helpful.

So basically you take a FPS hit when running in Windowed mode.
What I'm seeing is worse performance (target is 1440p Ultrawide) when I try to upscale in Windowed mode from 1080p Ultrawide resolution.

Tips & Ideas?
Cheers.

Heya Yoghurt

Obviously, every PC and every game is different, but the general idea is the same. Running in windowed speeds the game up, then adding LS adds a small hit but gets it full screen again, while still being a net win performance wise.

The following numbers are example only to demonstrate how it typically works:

Imagine a game that at 1440p gets 40fps when full screen.
Running it in 1080p windowed gives you maybe 60fps.
But then add in the small overhead of LS to get things to fullscreen again, the final fps might be something like 55fps.

Where I need it, I typically run most games with the following settings:

  • Scaling Mode - Custom, scale factor 1.3, Resize On.
  • Scaling Type AMD FSR, Sharpness 1/2, Optimised Off.
  • Cursor Options - Clip Cursor On, rest off.
  • Rendering Options - VRR On, rest off.

Where games don't support Resize before scaling, I then use Auto scaling mode.

Good luck!
