Lossless Scaling

Lossless Scaling

Input lag, stuttering and skipped frames
My major concern about this solution is inevitable input lag, stuttering and skipped frames that will be caused by the way how windowed mode and DWM works in newest versions of Windows. Magpie had it, every single game in windowed/borderless mode had it. Is there any way to actually fix this issue in 2021?

You ask is it possible to scale exclusive full screen game? No

Would be great, but yeah I'm aware it is impossible. I've seen many discussions or reddit and tech websites, so I wonder if there was at least some tricky workaround found.

No unfortunately. But playing windowed isn’t bad in my opinion.

Not the software fault, that's for sure. But some games with precise controls or smooth visuals (competitive shooter or racing sim) are horrible with input lag and stuttering in windowed mode. I've seen some attempts to inject FSR with tools like reshade or replace ingame dll files, is it possible to implement it in future for fullscreen like CAS?

Exclusive full screen changes screen resolution, how do you scale that.

Yes, but if game has rendering scale option technically it should be possible to use FSR even in exclusive fullscreen, overriding it with FSR. Like this:

This software aims to provide universal solution to games scaling. Very few games have rendering scale option, and it needs to be done on per game basis by either a dll hacking or the process inject, also the latter may engage anti cheat in the competitive games you want to play.

No, this does exactly the same thing. Might as well use magpie.

Question was about DWM drawbacks workaround, not comparison.

There is no workaround, they work the same way. Input lag and stutter makes 90% of games unplayable with both software (I've used this and refunded).

Have you tried locking LosslessScale to Your Monitor refresh rate..?
I mean if it's 60Hz...lock losslessScale to 60 FPS using Rivatuner....
Also, have you tried disabling any overlays like Steam or Discord...?
Also, Have you tried giving Higher priority to losslessScale.exe using Task Manager...?

Not sure about your spec but with some tinkering I've managed to make this works virtually the same as borderless fullscreen. Literally completed Tales of Arise fully using LS with no perceptible input lag.

Also tried Magpie and yeah, it had some crazy input lag unlike this one.

That's all generic suggestions. Can be helpful in certain games, but mostly it's all about DWM that cannot be turned off. I don't have Windows 7 anymore, but in theory Magpie and Lossless Scaling should work perfectly on it if supported by OS.

Windowed and borderless aren't that different, it's still not exclusive fullscreen to keep focus only on game application without forced Vsync or Triple Buffering, which is a main reason of mentioned problems with framepacing and input lag. "Allow tearing" setting in Lossless Scaling helps with input lag, but as expected screen tearing would be another problem.

Uh, borderless has made a large leap in recent times that unless your system has issues, it's virtually imperceptible to fullscreen which is a legacy mode by now. Look up RTSS or Fast Sync. You do you though.

Beliefs that Windows force vertical sync on windowed games, or have huge input lag, have been carried over from the days of Windows 8. Borderless full-screen windows are now the preferred method for new games and do not have any of the mentioned drawbacks. For example, a borderless LS window runs in independent flip mode with a delay of 3ms (with the tearing flag enabled) to 15ms (disabled), which is still less than 1 frame time on my system.
