Is TDU2 still playable?
I haven't played in a few years and I'd really like to play again to go through the single player portion of the game. I'm just wondering if I should even bother downloading it to try to play? Does it still launch and play okay? Anything specific I should know or need to know to get it to run properly if it does still work?

I noticed the store page was completely removed but the community pages are still up. Made me wonder if the game is still even playable. I did read the news post that was posted a few months back about the servers going down, and the game still being able to be played locally without multiplayer.

Anyone that can pass on any information that would be helpful would be much appreciated. I just want to make sure I wont run into any problems.

Yes, the game is playable, the same offline activities you always had - championships, missions.

There are multiple issues with the game and its original launcher, though, but they aren't related to servers being down, they've been there all the time.

The only thing that is related to servers is you have to wait for 2 minutes when you first start your game and you don't have any offline profiles. Only after that you get an error message and a menu pops up, where you can create a new (offline) profile.

The most common issue is the game fails to start when you press "Play" button in launcher. You can try:
- close all applications that might use your sound system;
- check out recent threads for other tips or google "tdu2 doesn't start";
- use the alternative launcher, but Steam achievement won't work: https://tdu2.knyazev-tools.ru/universal-launcher/

If you have your old online profiles you can make them work as if they are offline. In order to run the game in its specific "offline mode" you have to disconnect your internet and only they start the launcher. Then press "Cancel", "Play", Yes", the game will start and you can reconnect your internet. If you're using the alternative launcher, simply use its "Offline mode" switch.

Okay great thank you for the reply Maskerader, good to know information. I don't have any saved information on my computer from last I played years ago. I'm on a completely different computer now and never made backups of my old locally saved information. I'd be starting fresh which i'm perfectly fine with. I just want to be able to launch and play the game and work through the single player. I'll download and install it and see if I run into any problems.

Oh also I'm on Windows 10. Any known issues with that? Actually, here are my system specs, think I'll run into any known configuration problems?

i5-8600K on a Z370 motherboard
16GB DDR4
GTX 1060 6GB w/ a 1080p 60Hz monitor

Of course all drivers are the latest and Windows is fully up-to-date.

I see that TDU2 has a discussion, why can't I find it in the store page and also is testdriveunlimited2 dot com down?

I don't know actually. Issues seem to affect different systems...

Somewhere around the first months of 2018 the game was removed from Steam store and we don't know the reasons, even whos decision it was, the publisher's (Atari) or Steam's. Too many refunds, maybe? I wouldn't be surprised.

In November 2018, Atari annouced they are closing TDU2 support forever, the game servers won't be back, and the site apparently went down too.

Eden Games are now independent (http://www.edengames.com) (https for some reason gets blocked) and are working on "gear.club" a mobile game.

Got a new PC recently with I7-9700k CPU and RTX2060 Graphics Card - thought I'd try TDU2 one more time - no problems launching but game kept freezing between races and when I tried to use the map. After 3 consecutive 'TDU2 has stopped working...' errors I've uninstalled and called it a day.. it's a shame because I used to like the game but as it's been left for dead I can't see any point in persisting anymore - will stick with newer games for the future.

Still have yet to download and install it to give a shot yet, but your post gives me little faith lol. I'm going to give it a go today. I'll post again to give my results.

Still running great here; i9 7900x, titan xp Jedi, 34” gsync 100 refresh 3440 x 1440, win 10. Smooth as butter.

Okay good to know, that's a little more reassuring.

Reporting back on my results. Download and installation went off without a hitch. Game loads perfectly without issue using the stock launcher. One small issue I did encounter was when I first ran the game was the sound was awful with lots of static. I resolved this quickly using the "Menu" at the top left of the launcher window and selecting options. I changes the audio device selected by default and changed it to DirectSound. Sound is working just fine now.

In game I changed my video settings to 1920x1080 at 60Hz, Vsync off, AA at 8x, and all other options at max. Had to manually switch the game to full screen mode with Alt-Enter. The game by default was in window mode at 1280x720. Using GeForce Experince's FPS counter, I'm getting a solid 110-120 FPS at all times. Played for several hours and didn't see it drop below 110 once.

I set up my Xbox 360 controller and changed all binds to my liking and all is well there.

Afterr several hours of game-play I didn't run into a single issue, no crashes, no stutters, no problems whatsoever. Also what's nice is all DLC installed just fine and all are active.

Couldn't be happier with how it turned out, and so glad I'm able to play this classic, without issue, once again.

Yeah, that's a common problem.

Check out if you have browser, Skype, Discord, etc. running, close everything that can use your sound system. If that won't work, ask google "tdu2 doesn't start", there are many possible reasons why it stopped launching your game and what you can do.

Or use the alternative launcher (no Steam achievements though): https://tdu2.knyazev-tools.ru/universal-launcher/
