Fix For Camera Spinning With Controller
Some users have experienced issues with the camera looking up or down while spinning uncontrollably. If this is the case, it is an issue with how the game is detecting your controller, and we suspect it is limited to DualShock controllers.

If you are using a controller and you are experiencing this issue, we added controller remapping in a previous update. While you are in game, press 'Esc' to open the menu, then click 'Options', then open the 'Inputs' tab. In there, there is a button labelled 'Remap Controller'. If you press this button, it will take you through the process of remapping how the game detects your various controller inputs. It is important that none of the buttons (including joysticks and triggers) are being pressed when you start remapping as it determines the default input values at this time. We don't have visual representations of the controllers yet, but it works with all of the controllers we tested.

If this doesn't work for you, or if you have any feedback about this, please let us know. If the majority of users have a different default control scheme, we may look into changing it in the future.

If you have a unique controller for other games, like a racing wheel, if you clear its bindings in this game, you can leave it connected without any issues. To do so, go to the 'Inputs' tab in the options menu, then click 'Remap Controller', then skip each of the inputs by pressing 'ESC' until it's done.

Still not working. :-( ... I am using Microsoft Xbox/Windows gamepad. When I try to remap controller, it fails to detect when i push stick up or right. (it does detect when i push stick down or left). This occurs with both left and right sticks. I am 100% certain my controller is working normally ( played many games - also validated input reading in UE4 ). Hope this helps you to fix - looking forward to trying the game

There goes my DualShock assumption. Which Xbox controller are you using? Do you only have one controller connected while remapping? Are you sure your joysticks were zeroed when you started remapping? Finally, are you using any third-party software for input configuration?
Edit: Did you also move the joystick around the radius a bit to make sure it was fully pushed up or right?

Which Xbox controller are you using? Tried both Microsoft XBox Wired and Wireless controllers

Do you only have one controller connected while remapping? Yes - tried just wired

Are you sure your joysticks were zeroed when you started remapping? Yes

Finally, are you using any third-party software for input configuration? Nope

Did you also move the joystick around the radius a bit to make sure it was fully pushed up or right? Yes

Its like the detection code only senses Right and Down on both sticks. So when it says Push Up it never detects until stick is pushed down or right. Same for Left.

Is it detecting both positive and negative movement for remapping?

Sorry, I meant which generation of Xbox controller do you have (Xbox 360, Xbox one)?

It compares the current value of every input to its default value (which it sets when you start remapping). I'll look into adding a debug mode for the next update to give some more visibility on what's happening.

Thanks - the latest XBox One controller from MS for Windows 10. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wireless-Controller-Adapter-Windows/dp/B078T3R8YS/

Looking forward to try patch

Did the issue get fixed in the meanwhile? I have some info which might help the devs in finding a fix for this bug if the issue hasn't been fixed yet:

Spinning camera while having a controller plugged in is an issue caused by UE4.

In other games I have played previously, I have experienced this issue as well. Most devs eventually get it fixed, but it seems to be something that is rather counter-intuitive since most UE4 games run into this issue before it eventually gets fixed.

Hello, I have a problem. I play on the right side of the keyboard. I change the control to the Enter button. But when I press the right Enter, my chat window opens. In the control settings there is no button to remove chat from the enter button. Is it possible to make sure that the chat does not open on the right Enter?

This issue is really painfull.

I don't remember when i bought the game but i didn't have any problem until an update un mai i believe.

don't know if it was the one adding perth or the one just before.

I'm having this issue only using the right joystick. it's almost impossible to aim correctly with many ennemies. i keep dying spinning around.

Tried the "remap" thing and it didn't change
Edit:I'll answer in my thread from now

It is not specific to Dual shock. My HOTAS that is always plugged in ends with the same result. X-56 is the HOTAS, I am not trying to use it for this game but there is no way to unbind it, I want to use mouse and keyboard.

So it's not fixed? Haven't played in weeks because of that.

The original thread is from January, I'm plying since March or April and only had the issue around summer with the big update

If you want to leave your HOTAS controller plugged in while playing The Black Masses, you can actually unbind the controls in the inputs section of the options. To do this, remap your controller from the 'Inputs' section of the in-game options menu, and then skip all of the inputs.

Hey, finally, my update...

So, i had spinning problems never fixed with any of your "official" tips with "xbox "licensed" controllers" but not genuine.

First one was an A-Power, symptoms were spinning camera (right stick). Spinning meaning "not stopping"

Then i bought a "hyperkin x-91" controller and had that time the same problem but with the left stick controller

I waited for black friday and now have one of the new microsoft xbox series x controller and...problem completely fixed.

So in my case, my first tought about genuine microsoft controllers turned out right.

Oh and fyi, my setup is now R5-3600x+32gb ram + rtx 3080.

I play 4k with every setting on ultra and have an average 58/60 fps.

But you do manage to get my card around 80°/176f, and cpu around 78°/172f after 2 min in game

It's strange how the non-genuine controllers aren't working. I test on a PDP brand Xbox controller. This is why I suggested restoring the defaults or remapping because sometimes my controller is detected incorrectly, and doing those things have fixed it for me.

Hey... Hum...
I still have one slight problem, just to let you know...

Every time I forget to plug my controller... If I start and load the game then plug in the controller the left stick is not working.
I have to come back to main menu and reload...

And no, I forgot to try simply remapping, I'll give it a try

That's weird, I also got that issue. I must have done something in an update. I was able to fix it by clicking on 'Restore Controller Defaults'. I'll look into what is causing that though. Thanks for letting me know.
