Is there any port forwarding required to play multiplayer? My friend and I have been trying to join each for a while now and have had no success. I can see other people on the browse section but our games don't appear on it. Any help would be great

I am having this issue too. One of us starts a private (friends only) online game and it starts okay, but the other can't see the game in the browser (friends or All). We've tried disabling antivirus and firewall, with no difference.

The only thing we can think of is that we're in the same house, on the same wifi. We play all games this way without any issues, but wonder if this is causing an issue here.
My friends and I are in separate houses so it's not a thing to do with being on the same network. It's a shame because the multiplayer looks really fun

That is strange. Did you try hosting a public game and joining that way?

Regards,

Robert.
We did before the most recent update, and it just wouldn't load. Haven't tried since the update though, so we'll give that a shot.

Here's what happens for me:
1) If I start a public game a new game appears in the server list for about 5 seconds on the other PC. It then disappears when the host load reaches 90%. If I join on the the client in those 5 seconds, I can join but my game is glitchy and does not run

2) If I run a friends only game, again the server appears briefly on the server list and disappears. However it is red and is not joinable. I am 'friends' with the server owner in Steam.

Check your antivirus and firewall settings to make sure The Black Masses is not being blocked, or whitelist it to make sure.

Yeah, tried that. I disabled the firewall and AV and it didn't work.

Have both of you tried restarting your routers? If that does nothing, you can try flushing your DNS. If you're on Windows 10:
Hold down the Windows Key and press X.
Click Command Prompt (Admin).
When the command prompt opens, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /registerdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
Reboot your computer.

Hi. Okay, I've been trying some things, including the suggestions above. This is where I am now...

I can start a friends only game. If my friend is on the browse screen, the new game flashes up for about 5 seconds (red) on the 'All' page. If my friend clicks join during this time, we can play. However, other people can also join.

The game never shows up on the 'Friends' tab.

Is your friend on the same network as you (using the same router in the same house)? Or does your friend have unique characters in their Steam name?

This is still broken, I can't join other player's multiplayer hosted matches and my friends can't join my multiplayer matches.

Exactly the same problem as Tmeister:
1) If I start a public game the game appears in the server list (in GREEN color) for about 5 seconds on the other PC. It then disappears when the host load reaches 90%. If I join on the the client in those 5 seconds, I can join but my game crashes.

2) If I start a friends only game, the server appears briefly on the server list (this time in RED color not joinable) and then disappears.

3). The same thing happens in reverse if my friends host the games.

We have tried:
- disabling firewalls
- restarting routers
- reinstalling the games

We are all in each other's friends list in steam and constantly play other coop games in steam together without any issues. We do not have any weird characters in our steam names.

This is not an issue with my PC or internet connection, i literally have hundreds of multiplayer games in my library and they all work perfectly fine.

This is clearly a problem with your coding.
After it crashes when you join in those 5 seconds, would you be able to get the crash log for us? To find it, open File Explorer, and in the navigation bar, type "%appdata%". This will take you to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming folder. From here, go up a folder to the actual AppData folder, and then navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\DefaultCompany\The Black Masses. In there, you will find a text file named "output_log.txt". Could you please either email that file to theblackmassesreports@gmail.com, or search the file for "crash", and then copy from a few lines above the 'crash' line to the end of the text file, and paste it in here?
