Drifting is so common that it has to be a more easy going way to recenter.
I understand that the key press might not be ideal but with most software allowing you to map a keyboard to a controller button it a lot easier. even PSmoveservice allow you to map start to the recenter button or any keyboard key.
Thanks for the effort.
On top of that, there are other joystick-to-keyboard programs like Joytokey or Xpadder that users can use to set themselves up and always have that convenient recenter button in their hands at all times.
About the knocking, I have to actually put some force in the knocks in order for smartphone to differentiate it from general motions, ending up in me effectively just punching myself in the head. Perhaps smartphone I use is less sensitive, but setting to modify the knock sensitivity would be good too.
I have to disagree with hotkeys being a no-no for well designed software though. In some cases they are essential in making usage of these programs a faster, more convenient and automated process. I believe that a crafty user could benefit from better control over the iVRy without ever lifting the headset, if they could adjust settings via hotkeys mapped to controllers (or memorize keyboard layout, it's actually not that hard to type on a keyboard while in vr, it just takes time to get used to this).
I really like the program so far, drifting doesn't bother me all that much, but I'd like to have a few more options for how I could recenter the HMD when it happens.
I like to have a function, to reset my "forward view angle" in PC-Games like in PSVR-Cinema-Mode. Let me explain why i prefer it, too.
I dont own any pc HMD. So I dont know if there is a "recenter" function in steamVR.
The PSVR-Behaviour:
=================
On PS4-PSVR you can recenter your "forward view angle" in "Cinema-Mode" by holding the "START"-button on the controller (DS4,Move,Aim). This is usefull, because the default "forward view angle" is created at the moment where the PSVR-Device was enabled. Typical you enable your HMD before you set it on your head, right? After you set your HMD on your head, your "view" has the wrong "orientation". You "recenter" the "forward view angle" after you sit/stand is comfortable. NOTE: The Recenter-Option works in Cinema-Mode. If you are in a PSVR-Game, the "forward view angle" is fix. This angle is the angle to your PSVR-Camera in your room.
The PC-Behaviour:
===============
PSVR and Mobile-HMD users usually dont have a camera (or other tracking devices) for tracking his/her hmd or to know where the "forward view angle" is.
I assume, you can "recenter" the "forward view angle" by starting the SteeamVR > Room Setup and maybe the orientation is created at the momement where roomSetup starts.
I assume, the PC-Game read this steamVR "forward view angle" and use this value ingame by the "recenter"-Keybinding, if the game supports it. There are games where I cant find the recenter-Keybinding.
If the game does not have the "recenter-Keybinding", I must start SteamVR-RoomSetup to recenter my view again and must restart the game if the recenter not works. If the drift ends, my "forward view angle" is wrong. I would like to recenter it on the fly. I dont want to lay down my HMD on the floor and go to my PC desk torestart SteamVR-Roomsetup again.
Press one of the volume buttons on the inline remote or headset (depending on PSVR version) to recenter.
